To be fair the Defense was ran like a basketball bench lol. Neilsen had no clue what he was doing with the talent he was given. Arik Armstead is a great example. Moving him back inside will do wonders for the line. And will allow Hines-Allen, Walker and Armstead fo all be on the field at the same time. I love this hire for DC because he preaches kick ass mentality. Watch his hard knocks stuff.

Maason Smith was the best interior DL in December when they finally allowed him to play. Expect him to improve greatly in his second season.

Gta be honest UCF, I’m hopeful but not excited from this hire. They are doubling down with inexperience at the top of both sides of the ball.. with Miller, Oluokun and Lloyd I could see why a 3-4 might be appealing but I hope he sees us as a 4-3 front, I like Travon on the edge with ears pinned back, although Josh had his best year in a 3-4.. idk, can’t wait to know the scheme they go with

Worst defensive coordinator hire of all the openings available. Literally every other team got a better defensive coordinator than we did. I don't know if we just can't hire an experienced defensive coordinator or none of them want to work with us, but my excitement meter is plummeting

He’s that bad, but the 49ers was impressed and was their second choice if they couldn’t get Robert and also penn State wanted him as DC coach. And his track record speaks for itself and it’s long and proven and he has had an impact everywhere he went. How do you think DC’s get started in the NFL. I’m tired of this retread of old coach’s, we need to get the next up and coming DC like every teams does then they go off to be HC then that’s when u attempt something like that once a standard has been set for the Organization.

@BWillTooDope I could go back 10 to 15 years and list our defensive coordinators and they'd all be first timers and no names Todd Wash was probably the best of them and that's not saying much. But at least he was average. You're tired of retreads. I'm tired of hiring guys that are in over their heads. Hopefully, this guy is better. I really hope so. Because our defense is trash and has been trash for a long time. We have so many high draft picks and expensive free agents yet we're constantly at the bottom of the league in every stat that matters. Look at Philadelphia. Their defense was underperforming and they knew it. What did they do? They went out and got Vic Fangio who by your definition is a retread and now their defense is number one in the league. Because experience matters. Results matter. That's the difference between winning organizations like the Eagles and losing organizations like the Jaguars.

The Eagles also have dogs at damn near every position which clearly Jacksonville doesn't especially in the secondary

@keys4137 Yeah, and with all that talent they still underachieved with poor coaching. However, the Eagles were smart enough to realize that and got an experienced coach who could get the most out of the talent they have. That's the problem with the Jaguars. They have talent but they don't have the coaching. There's no excuse for our defense to be the worst in the league with the players we have. I'm not saying we're the Eagles, but we could certainly be better. If we had an average defense last year I think we would have made the playoffs. We lost 10 one score games. How many times did the defense fall apart at the end of those games? Doug lost his job because he didn't hire the right defensive coordinator twice. He screwed around with Caldwell and then replaced him with Nielsen. That's why he got fired. If we win just half those games, we're nine and eight and have a third straight winning season under Pederson. But the defense could not close games out. They were outplayed and outcoached consistently. I hope the new DC Is good because I can't keep watching this year after year. Are we actually trying to win Super Bowls?
