Guruji aap pooja paat kripya apni jagah karein. Mandir and construction banaiga toh jagah ganda hoga. Its best to keep the place as it is and as the God wants..Natural. The elevated geographical region that we call as the Himalayas today including parts of north and north-east India, Nepal, Bhutan is a gigantic fold mountain system formed when the Indian plate collided with the Eurasian plate about 50 million years ago. This collision continues as we speak and gets manifested as earthquakes now and then in the region. The mountain's geology and mineralogy reveals that the soil, rocks are nothing but submerged oceanic crust and continental shelf that lay between the two plates and got thrust up due to the collision. Therefore fossilised remains of oceanic creatures are often found in the seemingly unlikeliest of places (high up in the mountains). What people worship as Saligrama stones are fossilised remains of ammonites. BUT... whether you are deeply religious or you have a scientific bent of mind, DON'T harm nature. Whenever you visit such fragile ecosystems, don't carry anything except memories and don't leave behind anything but footprints.

Krishna Jambur. you have to read Indian puranas how in your language so called ammonite fossil is present and found only in Damodar Kunda and Gandaki periphery. Puranas are far advance than modern science but very rare people understand and interprete the puranas exactly. The best way to reveal it is to practice it as religious rituals in your daily routine.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Did I insult the vaidika dharma? No. Did I ridicule the 'shaligrama'? No. Did I tell people to not worship the shaligrama? No. All I did was to explain what the shaligrama actually is. All I said was whenever we visit ecologically sensitive areas it is better to take nothing else other than memories and leave back nothing other than footprints. This is what advaita actually propagates. See divinity in everything. But that shouldn't stop you from understanding it. I am a practicing vaidika dharmika smartha brahmin. I don't pluck flowers to offer during pooja because plucking flowers is like separating infants from their parents. I am also a student of logic and research. You are right - our puranas are profound and are an infinite source of wisdom. I am too small a person to talk about them. All those saying 'I want saligram' in the comments section- there are a lot of protocols in bringing a saligram home. One needs to perform vedic puja thrice a day without fail, no non veg consumption at home and saligram should be given by your Guru & many things like this. One of my relative had brought it from there. He & his family suffered a lot because he did not follow the necessary protocols. Later, after he left it back from where he picked it & did prayaschitta, normalcy was restored in his life.

It also depends upon what type, & what form of Salagrama deity is there. All Salagrama are not amenable for householders, etc. some are only fit for Yatis and renunciates etc. it could have been an Ugra rupam your acquaintances had. The utmost care must be taken when choosing a Salagrama…also, it does not have to be given by your guru only.

@@supernova652 Bhagvan is everywhere including ugra and saumya. No sin will incur when you worship Him. If you cant worship him the vedic way you can just with a pure heart chant Hare krishna or Shri vishnu thats enough. People who say Vishnu becomes angry at his devotees have no clue about Vishnu tattva

There is a folklore that a poor cobbler was unknowingly using a shaligram as his tool but while using it he would chant shri hari narayan's name. A rich and arrogant brahmin once noticed him with shaligram... He kicked the poor fellow, bad mouthed him and took away shaligram from him. Within few days his life turned upside down. So he realized his mistake and returned the shila to the cobbler. His peace was restored and the cobbler was blessed by shri narayan bhagwan. You can google this story.

Agar mandir nahi banaoge to kuchh der me kuchh log masjid bana lenge. Jaise abhi Badrinath ko ye Badaruddin kaheke kabjane ki bat kar rahe hai. Kal hi news me dekha. Achcha jin pahadiyo pe sirf mandir hua karte the waha par bhi jagah jagah masjid ban gai hai ap notice karna. Kisi dharm se koi bairbhav nahi par atikraman galat hai.
