A bit too much symbolism for my liking, kinda reminds me of the way Hindus consider books in general to be sacred, which is probably what caused Sikhs to consider the Guru Granth to be itself divine, and how this has been adopted by Pakistani and Indian Muslims to apply to the Qur'an. It is however interesting to see from an anthropological perspective how these practices evolve over time, in both proximity to other cultures and isolation from them.
