I love how you get the percussion in there on what is a surprisingly difficult song to play and sing at the same time. And you're playing it with a flatpick, unlike almost everybody else I've ever seen play this. Nice!

HOWLIN’ WOLF WAS A SUPER FORCE INDEED. He was way before my time here but his story is so worth watching and listening too.

A month ago at rhythm of the river music fest you played a set inside the church building. Mostly blues. I havnt had the opportunity to hear much blues live sadly but I have watched a shit ton of videos online and your one of the best one man band blues acts I’ve ever seen. The way your voice echoed in that church man. Maybe it was the drugs but I was legit crying. Beautiful dude you have so much soul!

thanks man, that was a fun set. I was hoping someone would play the pipe organ they had there. The closest to there i have any shows coming up is Clermont IA September 14 for a small festival called Hennyville. If you know of anywhere closer that would hire me in I'm always game.

there's no finer compliment one could say, thank you. Wolf was who first turned me on. I've got a lot of videos singing blues on here and way more on Instagram, this one did feel good and in the pocket in the moment as it was happening.

A pretty good version of the old blues standard made famous by the Yardbirds and the Animals. Jaik Willis captures the Howlin' Wolf tune perfectly.

Thanks. I didn’t know the europop bands played it but I guess that’s not surprising. I came up on the Wolf version Chess records made famous

Yo Jaik, is that a little gooseneck mic on your guitar? What's did you run that through? Cause it sounds damn good. What about feedback issues? Ever try using it with a monitor?
@jaikwillis3 жыл бұрын
Good eye & ear That’s a DPA 4099g mic that I use to amplify my acoustics. You’re hearing it direct here. It works great. I monitor with a fishman loudbox performer and run the amp out to the FOH mains. I’ve been able to project over bands and drums etc as long as they’re reasonable , it’s still a mic. I’ve only ever gotten in trouble trying to play with another acoustic that is running an under saddle to the monitor , it can’t keep up with that at all. But I can’t stand playing under saddle pickups after the DPA, they have no dynamics - the DPA mostly sounds and feels like the instrument and you can adjust tone by moving the mic position on the fly. I’m considering a k&k plus ToneDexter as a compromise for mega loud situations and for sound guys who don’t get it. But when I’m in charge of my own sound the DPA is great, at least as good as one could expect possible.

Hey man I'm studying your percussive rendition of this tune. Are u using your left hand to mute the strings when doing a percussive strum or do you use your right hand to do a simultaneous strum and palm mute? And do you percussive strum at every 2, 4 beats even at the first bar cycle of the riff?
