Sadly it will never be repeated since they make left handed guitars these days.

@@BlackPrimeMinister well not exactly. so the guitar strings have to be strung reverse order to play left handed, which was what he did w' his right handed fender strat. It wasn't easy finding a left handed strat as a youngster and Jimi adapted to playing w a regular one, making it work, doing it his way. And it's worth noting that by doing this he unintentionally created a unique sound in that the pickup meant for the low notes bass strings were now on the high note trings and vice versa with the high note strings' pickup now on the lower bass strings

Hey Joe was released as a single on December 16, 1966, marking his first solo release. Hendrix died on September 18, 1970. The world only knew of Jimi Hendrix for 3 years, 9 months, and 2 days before his death. In that time, the man would change the sound of music and inspire countless musicians for generations to come. One of my favorite things I’ve heard about Jimi Hendrix was how much he practiced. He always had the guitar on him. People who toured with him said it was common to find him in the morning, on the bed, still dressed, bed still made, asleep with the guitar still in his hands. I’ve done that a couple times and remember being so proud the first time I did it. That’s pure passion and dedication. Growing up, whenever I got into something new, if I wasn’t able to do it right off the bat, I would get frustrated and quit. Until high school when I realized that I loved guitar and skating so much, that I have to get good at them no matter what. It wasn’t even a choice. It’s like my soul was telling me this is something I absolutely have to do, something I can’t live without. Those two things taught me how to learn, and that nothing is out of your reach if your willing to make an effort, and put in the time and the work.

I think his reach would have been profoundly wide. He was excited by everything. All the stuff he was doing with Buddy Miles could have led anywhere. I can easily see him having done 70s stuff that might be sold as jazz albums. It would have been fascinating to see what a slightly older Jimi made of 70s America and 70s Britain - two increasingly different places. I can easily imagine him travelling and settling for periods all over the world, listening and playing as he went. At 78, he'd probably have orchestral works under his belt as well as collaborations with people like Fela Kuti, maybe some percussive Mediterranean based musical culture whether Arabic or otherwise, lots of concerts. But he would still be a blues guitarist. That would always be there. There's no doubt about that for me.

I suppose another way of looking at it, is if he had lived, Jimi might have slowly faded into obscurity and ended up writing less original ideas etc. His sudden death immortalized his music, because he died at the height of his creativity, a living legend. That caused people to hold very near and dear all his great work. I always had a feeling Jimi's time on earth was to give the world a great catalog of highly original music and once he did that, it was time to 'leave'

the reason Jimi said he was "scared to death" was only because Peter Neal (who was making the documentary) told him before they started shooting this section, they only had a few minutes of film left in the camera. (film was expensive even then, people were making films with not much money) The guys were shooting a different film for the band. they asked Jimi if they use the end of the roll of film on him playing an acoustic, which would be different. He had no acoustic guitar with him so one of the guys ran back to his house to get his Zemaitis 12 string acoustic (which at the time were made in London by Tony Zemaitis) just so Jimi could play this piece, he never used this guitar again as it wasn't his. they also had to re-string it because of Jimi being left handed.

@mikegrand41814 жыл бұрын
@@antoinettedresser6446 Yes, he played a right-handed Fender restrung for him. I'm left handed so I checked out what that means. There's a great article with laymen explanations of the significance. If I remember, the strings are reversed so the lengths are different and the tension is different which results in a unique sound. Also, the heights of the magnets in the pickups are reversed so again a unique sound. He adapted and overcame the obstacle of being left-handed.
@ggstudio66644 жыл бұрын
Jimi did of course play a right handed guitar re strung upside down, left hand Strats were non existent. But he did occasionally for show play a right handed guitar upside down without being restrung with friends. This twelve string is restrung left handed. But here's the thing that no one ever mentions, Jimi was actually right handed, so it wasn't that tricky for him. He wrote right handed and did everything else like throw right handed. He's bending the strings because this guitar is tuned down two whole steps to C from standard E.
@mikewichmann69594 жыл бұрын

Key is to drop the tuning which he mostly did. He also did that because he used a hybrid set of strings and to maintain the tension ; an important part of his unique sound which most people ignore.

Jimi was cool on-stsge but not so much off-stage. He was addicted to amphetamines and when he mixed drugs and alcohol (almost daily), he was obnoxious and violent, especially with women. Alcohol, amphetemines, and LSD is a bad mixture. He would skip songs on the song list when he forgot the lyrics.

He was very messianic. Brilliant but born of tragic circumstances, conflicted, hugely influential but still filled with self doubt. He was murdered, at the peak of something transcendent, by evil men, for, ultimately, nothing and, yet again, in our sordid history, we were all denied what he could have gone on to say and do.
