beautiful song, beautiful soul. "humility," yes. love for the brothers ans sisters. If only we had told him how much we loved him, maybe he would've played decades longer. if only someone loved him enough to keep away the vultures....Groupie memoirs recount alot of real asshole rock stars, but jimi: he treated all women with gentleness, kindness.

What was so scary special about Jimi is he really, honestly didn't see himself as being all that talented. He looked up to a lot of the blues greats without ever realizing that tens of millions of musicians since he passed have "looked up to him. He was really a generational talent. @@BlackPrimeMinister No he's definitely very gifted but there are other great guitarists since he passed who have their own unique phenomenal talents. What does make him more unique than almost all others since is the fact that he taught himself to play a right handed guitar left handed. Now THAT is a once a century deal there. Sadly it will never be repeated since they make left handed guitars these days.
@BlackPrimeMinister
@BlackPrimeMinister 4 ай бұрын
@@kimberlyfrost4730 Yes, I heard he just took other players' guitars and swapped it over in front of them and blew their minds. He was a kind of sorcerer and the guitar was his magic wand. I don't find that in other players.
@connicrow9463
@connicrow9463 3 ай бұрын
@@BlackPrimeMinister well not exactly. so the guitar strings have to be strung reverse order to play left handed, which was what he did w' his right handed fender strat. It wasn't easy finding a left handed strat as a youngster and Jimi adapted to playing w a regular one, making it work, doing it his way. And it's worth noting that by doing this he unintentionally created a unique sound in that the pickup meant for the low notes bass strings were now on the high note trings and vice versa with the high note strings' pickup now on the lower bass strings

Back in high school an LP album cost $2.88 and you would have needed a flatbed truck filled to the brim with those albums to come even close too matching what I can now carry in the coin pocket of my Levi's. Remember file sharing to build a music library, KZbin eliminated that nightmare and gave us access to the entire music catalog of the world. To me, even the cell phone pales in contrast to KZbins contribution in making my life a wonderful peaceful existence. Thank you KZbin for making everyday, Christmas day. Hey Joe was released as a single on December 16, 1966, marking his first solo release. Hendrix died on September 18, 1970. The world only knew of Jimi Hendrix for 3 years, 9 months, and 2 days before his death. In that time, the man would change the sound of music and inspire countless musicians for generations to come. Even today, it is near impossible to learn guitar without learning about Hendrix and the impact he had on music. When people speak of guitar legends, few can compare with Jimi Hendrix.

One of my favorite things I’ve heard about Jimi Hendrix was how much he practiced. He always had the guitar on him. People who toured with him said it was common to find him in the morning, on the bed, still dressed, bed still made, asleep with the guitar still in his hands. I’ve done that a couple times and remember being so proud the first time I did it. That’s pure passion and dedication. Growing up, whenever I got into something new, if I wasn’t able to do it right off the bat, I would get frustrated and quit. Until high school when I realized that I loved guitar and skating so much, that I have to get good at them no matter what. It wasn’t even a choice. It’s like my soul was telling me this is something I absolutely have to do, something I can’t live without. Those two things taught me how to learn, and that nothing is out of your reach if your willing to make an effort, and put in the time and the work.

When Jimi came to England all the white boy blues guys shat their pants. Some went for envy other simply absorbed everything and became better players themselves.

Clapton became good friends with Jimi. I don't know where you got the racist bs from, but it is a straight up lie. Every musician that played with Jimi loved him, they all got famous from stealing his licks and using them in there music. If you can call that stealing, because there is very little actual "new" music. Ritchie Blackmore tells how everyone in the period were influenced (stole) from Jimi's music. It's pretty incredible when you here it explained by one of the best guitarists of the time.

I think his reach would have been profoundly wide. He was excited by everything. All the stuff he was doing with Buddy Miles could have led anywhere. I can easily see him having done 70s stuff that might be sold as jazz albums. It would have been fascinating to see what a slightly older Jimi made of 70s America and 70s Britain - two increasingly different places. I can easily imagine him travelling and settling for periods all over the world, listening and playing as he went. At 78, he'd probably have orchestral works under his belt as well as collaborations with people like Fela Kuti, maybe some percussive Mediterranean based musical culture whether Arabic or otherwise, lots of concerts. But he would still be a blues guitarist. That would always be there. There's no doubt about that for me.

I suppose another way of looking at it, is if he had lived, Jimi might have slowly faded into obscurity and ended up writing less original ideas etc. His sudden death immortalized his music, because he died at the height of his creativity, a living legend. That caused people to hold very near and dear all his great work. I always had a feeling Jimi's time on earth was to give the world a great catalog of highly original music and once he did that, it was time to 'leave'

the reason Jimi said he was "scared to death" was only because Peter Neal (who was making the documentary) told him before they started shooting this section, they only had a few minutes of film left in the camera. (film was expensive even then, people were making films with not much money) The guys were shooting a different film for the band. they asked Jimi if they use the end of the roll of film on him playing an acoustic, which would be different. He had no acoustic guitar with him so one of the guys ran back to his house to get his Zemaitis 12 string acoustic (which at the time were made in London by Tony Zemaitis) just so Jimi could play this piece, he never used this guitar again as it wasn't his. they also had to re-string it because of Jimi being left handed.

@@antoinettedresser6446 Yes, he played a right-handed Fender restrung for him. I'm left handed so I checked out what that means. There's a great article with laymen explanations of the significance. If I remember, the strings are reversed so the lengths are different and the tension is different which results in a unique sound. Also, the heights of the magnets in the pickups are reversed so again a unique sound. He adapted and overcame the obstacle of being left-handed.
@ggstudio6664

Jimi did of course play a right handed guitar re strung upside down, left hand Strats were non existent. But he did occasionally for show play a right handed guitar upside down without being restrung with friends. This twelve string is restrung left handed. But here's the thing that no one ever mentions, Jimi was actually right handed, so it wasn't that tricky for him. He wrote right handed and did everything else like throw right handed. He's bending the strings because this guitar is tuned down two whole steps to C from standard E.

I can still vividly remember the force of his impact on rock music just as I can still remember hearing Purple Haze and Foxy Lady on the radio for the first time. He was the first rock guitarist I heard who played rhythm and lead seamlessly and fluidly without having to stop doing one to begin the other. What he did on guitar said "natural born talent" but how he combined that facility with his wonder touched imagination forged a kind of intimate magic that has to my way of thinking never been equalled, and probably never will be.

@@j.bradleyheck1589 That said he lived a brief time with Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones when he arrived in England and Wood said Jimi was always playing and it was frustrating to seem him grab my, turn it over and that he still played .well. I think if he grabbed Wood's guitar and flipped it then the strings would be so called upside down. I've read other players who knew Jimi who made the same comment. I would imagine that for a left handed guitar player that this would not be that strange a thing to as they'd constantly be running into right handed guitarists with their way of stringing their guitars. @@kirstendieker8757 Do you know how a famous flute teacher improved the skills of her already professional students? She gave them a leftie. They needed to learn how to play that flute completely from scratch, because both hands switch function. Just like a leftie guitar. All playing habbits went into the dustbin. Learning again, guided by that famous teacher, took them to a higher level. Later, they learned to apply the new ways of playing, to their own instrument. This story was in some master class video. He ripped up all my pics, posters and rock t-shirts. I was so pissed but there was nothing I could do except take it! All these years later come to find out it came from a jam session! Wow!!!!!!!!
