Former Australian military lawyer David McBride helped expose war crimes in Afghanistan by leaking 235 documents, most of which were classified military information.
McBride says his intention in leaking the documents was to ensure military leaders and the government were held to account for their decisions about the conduct of the war.
The documents formed the basis of the ABC's 2017 investigative series exposing alleged war crimes titled The Afghan Files.
McBride is now in jail for breaching national security laws.
Adele Ferguson from ABC Investigations was granted rare access to the high security prison in Canberra where he is being held to interview him face to face.
