I heard this song a LONG time ago on KAAY's Beaker Street "underground" radio show broadcasted from Little Rock Arkansas. They pumped up their night time power to 50,000 watts and it came in loud and clear all over the eastern half of the country. I remember laying in bed with my radio playing all night long. Best radio station there ever was, they would play songs a lot of other stations wouldn't play.

I live in a small Kansas town, so we would ride around in the country smoking and listening to Clyde Clifford, KAAY, Little Rock, Arkansas! "White Bird" was a mainstay for a time. I had never heard a song like that before. A ton of songs never would have heard before this program. Clyde played non-stop the entire Moody Blues "On The Threshold Of A Dream" album. What a great ride this show was. Especially in the summer when school was out. "Interstellar Overdrive" by Pink Floyd. I could not believe what I was hearing when THAT one came on. Some of the best guitar work I've ever heard!

What a great show and station! No one cared it was AM because the music was so good, all that mattered was you could catch it and if you could you were in for a great time. My brother used to always keep his cassette tape recorder ready to go, just in case. If I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure my brother bought this vinyl and probably still has it in pristine condition. Good days!

Thanks for this! I saw what might have been Brockett's last public performance of this. He came to perform at Union College in 1972. It was a small coffeehouse venue where the audience was requesting Titanic. He demurred that he didn't perform it anymore. The coffeehouse manager Becky G. showed him a news clipping, that date was the 60th anniversary of the sinking. He agreed, and launched into a half-hour monster version of his Legend. 40 years later, I'll never forget it.

I went to a Jamie Brockett concert in 1969 in Boston with my girlfriend, we hung out after the concert and met him. He invited us back to a place he was staying at with friends. (better then renting a hotel room, although I imagine he slept in his van some nights on his "tours". He was the nicest guy I've ever met, we drank some tea and smoke a joint. He pulled his guitar out and played a couple of songs. Then asked me if I played. "Some", I said. And he handed me his guitar ... I played some Dylan song, best I could. He was nice and said, "keep on practicing". He was so cool

acutally,,,that'd be ,,,,KAAY AM-LITTLE ROCK...''BEAKER STREET'',,, an oblique reference to LSD. The program featured Acid rock and its name alluded to the fact that "Acid" ( i.e., LSD ) was created in a laboratory beaker, a simple contain (glassware) for stirring, mixing and heating liquids commonly used in many laboratories...a bit esoteric-and ahead of its time..but great rock music!

I was 19 when I had my first "monumental" experience with a woman. It was back in '69, and she'd invited me to her dorm room, presumably to get my thoughts on this song. She also furnished a joint, the likes of which I'd yet to smoke....until a few circles around the "deck of the Titanic" with her...and with Jamie. I went on from college to work in radio, and often spun this timeless track on my Free-form Rock show at the former WYDD FM in Pittsburgh. Thanks, Jamie Brockett, for being part of my life history. First time I've told this story in all these years. And hey...wish you had a Facebook Fan Page!

Later on, we amended the rule to consider the gas tank level!

Amazing song, amazing performance. Nothing else like it. Once you hear this in Hi-Fidelity you never forget. That acoustic guitar produces a wall of sound all by itself. This is a legendary song that founded FM Stereo Radio. Thanks for sharing.

Back in the early 1980s my hometown radio station, WTCS-AM 1490, played this song as part of its "Saturday Night at the T" program. I have good memories of enjoying this track. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this. Excellent work on the video. A favorite of mine from underground FM radio in the 60s. (KCAC and KDKB in Phoenix) For decades, I would talk to people about this song and I couldn't find anyone who had ever heard of it.

+Steve j Grand Island, Ne and KAAY was great. But this song was a drag after hearing it 3 times. Time to check out WLS, KSTP, ElPaso, Tx, (actually Mexico) and Denver stations. After ten minutes or so--back to KAAY. Sorry that AM radio turned into programmed talk shows and elevator muzak. I don't think my kids have ever heard AM radio--ever! Sheesh.

Man, I'm 33 years old from Conway Ar. I first heard this song in the 90s on Beaker St. with Clyde Clifford while sitting in my dads shop while he was wrenching on a back halved, BBC Biscayne probably under the influence of Mexican rope lol! I had to tell you that.

Thanks for posting this! I first heard this tune in 1972, under some clean pure windowpane. My friends, a few years older and wiser, introduced me to this album and a few other masterpieces back in the dawn of the 70s. I still quote some of the lyrics in passing brief conversations. "I just carry it..." Once in awhile I'll get a knowing nod from some formerly cool person, usually an overgrown hippie like me who still actually owns the original album. Thank you Jamie!
