His fight record is as padded as Deontay Wilders, so it's no surprise he's being found out now.

@AndresGomez-ct7qb8 күн бұрын
Stop. Munguia has Muhammad Ali's record compared to Wilder's. No great fighters on there, but plenty tough fighters. Wilder literally fought Jason Gavern and other Rod Salka level club fighters before Stiverne. Only problem with Munguia is he refused to step up his game in 2019 after underwhelming performances against Takeshi Inoue and Dennis Hogan and just stagnated for half a decade until Canelo looked his way.
@martinwood-wilkinson23178 күн бұрын
@ check out Munguias first 25 fights. I’m not saying his entire CV is terrible, he has credible wins over Beefy, Derevyanchenko and Ryder, but they are hardly elite level. He beat a weak champ in Sadam Ali for the belt. Yeah, maybe not as bad as Wilder, but still a padded record
@MrClassicmetal8 күн бұрын
And I think you're right regarding his punch resistance. Sooner or later getting hit that often will catch up, and Munguía has been fighting for quite some time now. With his leaky defence, it was a matter of time before he got caught like that.
@shakes.dontknowwhatyergettin8 күн бұрын
Everyone obsessing about Suraces KO percentage and Munguias chin and blah blah. Look at the individual punch, and the connection it made. It doesn't matter if Surace couldn't crack an egg usually - that particular punch was a NUKE. You can see it by the impact.

Surace's punches seemed to carry good power to me, watching this fight. His only 4 KOs in 25 wins might have another explanation, maybe he only developed good leverage recently, it's possible. Anyway I hadn't watched any Surace fight before, but I'm French and I knew he is respected here. When I heard of the fight, I had that feeling, "unreasonably risky fight for the cash cow..." Especially since I had never been very impressed by Munguia to begin with. I didn't predict the upset, but I had that clear feeling that it was a very bad idea from Munguia's handlers. I had had that same feeling in the past, for Whyte Povetkin for example, or for Joyce Zhang, not that I predicted the loss, but I didn't understand the unreasonable risk. Anyway, well done Bruno, great victory!

I think it was just a freak shot. Even if mungia’s punch resistance is deteriorating, it’s still odd that a non puncher didn’t just stop him by tko, he KO’D the guy clean out. Couldn’t even make the count. If they rematch, I bet he won’t do that again.

Exactly.. I think this was just a lucky shot

Agree, I'd be amazed it he could do something like that again. It was a bit of a Roy Jones punch, and i doubt he's got another one of those in him.

It was probably a freak shot, a bit like the one that Michael Nunn landed on Sumbu Kalambay for a shock 1 round KO back in 1989. Kalambay had never been stopped before and he never got stopped again in 64 fights.
@AndresGomez-ct7qb8 күн бұрын
Doesn't matter if Munguia is done or not since he hasn't shown any initiative to achieve anything in the sport beyond getting a Canelo fight. Even if he bounces back, what exactly is gonna happen? He's just gonna keep treading water like he has been doing since leaving 154.
@JB-cm8zd8 күн бұрын
Surace must have been watching Tommy Hearns god damn that punch was sweet
@AndresGomez-ct7qb8 күн бұрын
This probably was inevitable considering Munguia threw away his potential and has been stagnating ever since he moved up to 160

It was a bit of a shot from the Gods, i don;t think he'd be able to do it again. I think Munguia has more left to give, but i doubt he's going to be at the top of the tree at 168
@jordanputtick65288 күн бұрын
You can see Mungia was dropping the left hand 6-7 seconds before the right hand ended the fight. He presented the opportunity, if you watch it closely you can see his opponent eyeing his left hand
@davidchester4298 күн бұрын
I don't think it's necessarily deteriorating punch resistance. As you always say styles make fights. Sometimes people just walk on to one. It could be. I'll agree with you though very unlikely he's weight drained. He might have a chin issue but it could also just be that this fighter could read him better than others

So much over analysis LOL. He got caught by a good punch and got knocked out. He otherwise probably would have won the fight. Now we're talking about the guys punch resistance and what's next, retirement? So Jaimie Munguia was "SUPPOSED" to win? Please stop. They are all fighters and everyone keeps saying everyone needs to fight everyone and get rid of these "0's", but as soon as someone loses a fight who is of note, here come all the commentators talking about he should be retiring or he's no good no more.. GTFOH

I don't understand how top fighters underestimate their opponent sometime. Yes you can call them cab drivers but that cab driver got there right? This isn't just some regular guy in the pub, no he's a professional fighter. It is extremely hard for a person to get into professional boxing rankings 10-20. Dont forget, boxing is a worldwide commissioned sport, meaning there are boxers all around the world and to get into those rankings is almost unheard off, very difficult and a very slim chance.

Like you have stated that certain to be instinctive in the ring in pulling out with harm in position for protection such wasn't the case and Surace had a clean shot at Munguia jaw that no one has to be KO artist tp getting anyone out of there. Surace went down from distraction created by Munguia to catch him not protected that part of his body and later on Surace caught coming out with his left hand not in position for protection, that was all she wrote which should teach young fighters lesson to do things instinctively when fighting because of fighters job is to look for unprotected areas at all time like Canelo Alvarez caught Berlanga not protecting his jaw in that fourth round that sent him silly on the floor which is what we call in French a surprise hit makes a dog poop on himself. Surace didn't look exciting in that ring but some one to fear because of patient that no fighter should take one another too lightly and those kind of clean blows can sent another fighter to coma from that velocity.
