BTW, the concept arts from ACII showed that hidden blade was using scissor spring to extend/retract. Which s still flimsy, but IMO better than double action knife.
@thtcrzywzrd922 жыл бұрын
The trick with the OTF system is it needs to be made without the safety. An OTF without that will stab into whatever its sharpness will allow. The scissor spring system has far too many moving parts, especially given the bloody nature of its use, though let's be honest, that blood is going to fuck up a lot of systems... Sans safety, I think the OTF system is far better for this purpose. The only thing I'd change is stronger springs for faster action(though I admit that's going to be tough to level, especially with my next bit) and some kind of return springs to automatically retract the blade when your hand relaxes.
@shadyone66202 жыл бұрын
@@thtcrzywzrd92 Scissor spring is the way to make the blade long enough, since it consists of two parts - blade and an extending insert. And, to be fair, hidden blade doesn't even need to be tough in the first place, since it's purpose is to stab unprotected victim or vulnerable spot. It also doesn't have to be strong to pierce through fles on way out. What you need is some stops to lock it in place upon extraction and which will bear the stress of thrusting motion instead of the spring.
@thtcrzywzrd922 жыл бұрын
@@shadyone6620 but the OTF system HAS that strength. The safety was only added in case of accidental deployment so you don't stab yourself if it deploys in your pocket. The length IS a problem, one that I don't have a legitimate solution to. I've been brainstorming but don't have anything concrete. But how much blade is really needed? Sure, the 12-ish inch blade is flashy and badass, but 4-6 inches seems more than sufficient to pierce something vital.(lol penis joke) But then there's also the biggest problem both systems face in that there's not a lot of distance in extending the hand from relaxed, even mostly extended, to where the blade should deploy. OTF seems better in this regard because it has a breakpoint that can be approached without partially extending the blade.
@Anim3ddicted2 жыл бұрын
@@shadyone6620 yeah, and also iirc, AC1- 4 uses ISU steel so it is strong, but from Unity onwards the steel assassin uses is downgraded
@thtcrzywzrd922 жыл бұрын
@@shadyone6620 I just had a thought. Why not both? OTF system on the first section with a mechanism to deploy the second using the scissor spring. That would allow for the limited breakpoint to deploy and allow for the proper length. The scissor spring system being entirely contained within the first blade segment sounds like an engineering nightmare but I think it could be done, especially with modern techniques.

For PS4 it's the square button on the menu screen to access the extra content photo gallery and in those photos, I reckon' there's literally a blueprint esc picture of Connor's hidden blade design

the funny thing about all the build people have made is that we know canonically how the hidden blade works, were shown a diagram in AC2. I don't remember who it was, but this was actually done and it did work, but the huge flaw with the design was that the scissor arm had to be too big to actually fit inside the housing and has fairly obvious that it was there because of this. When the arm was coiled it was extremely wide on the forearm. Imagine one of those extending boxing glove toys and you can see the problem. There may have been other iterations since then, but this is the only one that I remember ever seeing.

1:58 the reason they do that « muscle spasm » is because in the game the blade is activated by the contraction of a certain muscle which is done by doing the movement, but the older models did use a string to make the blade come out which once again was activated by that flick of the wrist (but you knew that already) Just thought i’d give some insight on the matter
@timothylarue95502 жыл бұрын
Old models like Bayek’s to Aliär’s used muscles to open that you could open at any hand position but everyone was trained to open it and use with the hand out to avoid a severed finger, then it became traditional and practical so everyone still uses it like that, mostly all assassins used non-beaked hoods. The only games where the robes were useful for truly blending in are, ac1, rouge, syndicate, unity, and origins, I don’t count The newest games already out as ac. This brought back fond memories of trying to make a hidden blade in my youth, I made mine from my dad's aluminium beer cans. It took me a very long time until I made a version that wasn't so flimsy the extension would cause it to disassemble. The final version used the scissor spring that would retract and extend with somewhat decent force, but I had to build in a little handle you'd have to wind up every 5 full extension and retractions because I couldn't think of another way to add energy to the secondary spring without using gravity to retract the blade each time. It wasn't a practical hidden blade but if I did use it for some assassinations I'm guessing Carling wouldn't have been too happy since their logo was plastered all over it, I didn't even have a real blade it was just folded aluminium beer can sheets that I cold hammered into a blade like shape

It was straight forward. They didn't have CO2 back then. And to dump on a design made by someone like Colin Furze is bold, considering it worked extremely well, was quiet considering all things, and also had a locking system to keep the blade in place which cancels out your complaint on pressure pushing back on the blade from contact. Yeah that applies to designs you get on ebay and 3d printing websites, but that's obviously because they're from places like eBay and 3d printing websites. if you want to limit the speed without having to do it with pressure (if you keep the pressure up you can keep the force it extends with high) you can buy flow controls, companies like SMC make airline fittings with flow controls in them. They've got a knob that pulls out and then you twist it either way depending on whether you want more or less flow. I assume it's something akin to a needle valve inside them, then once you've got it set you push the knob back in and it holds the "setting".

Only the older blade designs (at least the AC1 HB did ) used the ring and string method. Altair modified the design later in his life to not only remove the need to cut off the ring finger, but also used a pressure switch for extending and retracting the blade. Not sure on the most of the newer designs, but the Auditore's blades have an extension to the normal blade, which increases it's length even further while making it more compact than older models.

I'm thinking of a system that hold pressurized air in it and when you'd like to withdraw the blade it'd pressurize it backward. Like some kind of chambers inside the blade.

This looks absolutely amazing! I'm wondering if there's a way to include a safety mechanism so that you can't stab yourself in the palm

I’m not ridiculing your design but wouldn’t air driven mean you have to have some kind of constant small engine driven air tank on you to power it ? Otherwise it would run out of air and not force the blade out at all? And how would you hide a whole air tank that could hold enough pressure discreetly on you ? Cause engine driven would def get hot being stealthy
@eloypadilla47582 жыл бұрын
u too did it wrong. i cant imagine being an assasin and run out of air on my neumatic hidden blade. for assassins creed hidden blades i think they should be mecanical, not neumatic or electric.

Jesus Christ is lord. Please read Genesis Mathew and one book you chose yourself to understand. It’s in the inner work Jesus Christ taught that reveal the Bible as truth. Start by forgiving your parents. It’s an important step in adulthood. They’re people too, they’ve loved you. Genuinely clean out that inner gunk there. Acts like this are how we show our faith. It isn’t belief alone, it’s actions based on belief. Genuinely taking Jesus Christ’s lessons to heart are the key. Please break down before him and ask for forgiveness Jesus Christ is the way truth and life.

This may be one of the more ridiculous designs I've ever seen

in all fairness, the original concept is: stealthly extend the blade, stab with the blade locked, stealthly retract the blade. Using the spring force to stab is an artistic liberty used in specific "cool" action sequences after the second game, which eventually got more common over time. But the original idea is still the main, mandatory rule. So, it's basically a spring loaded wrist dagger.

It'd be interesting to see if the locking mechanism can withstand the force of a typical assassination. I know for firearms you can get a torso made out of gel. Not sure what it's called but due to it's transparent nature, it shows bullet penetration well. Incredible work there btw! Looks deadly!
@BattleKing002 жыл бұрын
It's called ballistics gel. You can also get a mold where you can fill parts of it with liquid to simulate blood. They use them on forged in fire frequently.
@3dpyromaniac5602 жыл бұрын
@@BattleKing00 those are very expensive... A torso and head analogue (what you'd want for this test as your typical hidden blade assassination is to the neck and/or torso) is about $3k, about 2.5k without head
@BattleKing002 жыл бұрын
@@3dpyromaniac560 I'm not terribly surprised at how expensive they are. Regardless, it would still make a cool demonstration.

Love the modern outlook on this, I’ve done my own full metal rack and pinion(r.p) hidden blade and it never had the ‘pop’. I had this idea but you’ve beaten me to the punch haha! There was an older youtuber I remember in 2013 who used a completely different method other than the r.p it was like a scissor lift design(dont know any other way to describe) it had the flick though thats forsure could puncture on impacts. Apples and watermelon in the video just wasnt dual action. Based off the in game schematics he had diagrams but the prntscrns have probably long expired 😢

Very cool. I think the hidden blade is one of the coolest weapons and to see a modern version of it is awesome. Good job, defenetly earned my sub and a like.
@Goobergal87052 жыл бұрын
Really cool. But doesn't having the sheath be all bright and shiny kinda defeat the whole stealth purpose? You could always wear long sleeves, but 1: then it might look suspicious unless you're always wearing long sleeves. And 2: still no reason for it to be shiny, might still catch light that'll catch attention.

i don't work with compressed air much, but if you hook up a solenoid valve to each pipe, won't there be a problem with back pressure? (i.e after the blade is extended, trying to push the blade back in won't work because of the air in the rear chamber can't escape through the valve) meaning you need some way to vent the side that not active, also, obviously this is a beautiful show peice that functions, but if you intend to stab anything, is there enough back pressure to keep the blade out instead of just being pushed back in?

I remember being in grade 6 trying to design a hidden blade with my friend. In the first 20 seconds of this I had a brainwave, co2 pushing and activating the springs both ways, so simple! I am 2:34 in and I imagine that's what you're going to do but I can't be sure! Either way, I need to learn to watch before commenting!
