He was unceremoniously ousted , after pretty much single handedly writing two of Ozzys biggest albums ( and saving his ass after Randy saved it first!) Ozzy would’ve absolutely ousted him. They’re only sympathetic for the most part because Randy died. I’m not saying that to sound like a horrible person, but no doubt they would’ve fucked him over. I saw the ult sin tour. I think it was during "I don't know" solo, Jake is on the corner of the stage sort of crouched down with his guitar a bit over the audience. The type of scene they snap pics of and put them on magazine covers. All of a sudden you see this arm pop out of the crowd and pulls Jake into the audience. Ozzys looking around like wtf?.... Ever heard that sound a guitar makes when something hits it when it's plugged in or it falls over? Well picture that thru a stadium PA. Security pulls Jake out and pushes him back onstage just as the main riff starts after the solo...he plays half the riff and the guitar isnt even close to being in tune. He throws the guitar, misc roadies deliver a fresh guitar and he starts playing, while pointing and giving the finger at the guy in the crowd who fucked up his solo. It was metal as fuck.

Jake was a young, naive (dumb) kid when he joined Ozzy's band and being so young and naive, he gave away his songwriting credit and publishing for the BARK AT THE MOON album. I put 5% of the blame for that on Jake, 10% of the blame on Ozzy, and 85% of the blame on Sharon. That's a conservative estimate on Sharon.
@ryanh5239

+James K. Naive and dumb? There wasn't anything naive about it. Those were the rules. As they should be. The Osbourne gig was the highest level a musician could reach at that time (outside of founding your own successful band). It was Osbourne and company who put the act on the map, not Jake. It wasn't like he made some mistake. What's he going to do? Tell Osbourne to shove off and start his own band? And let's not forget, while it is an awesome song, its success was due in very large part because it was delivered by Osbourne. Had Jake not accepted Osbourne's terms, THAT would have been naive and dumb.

This is an interesting subject that not too many people seem to get their grip on. I could go on and give you my opinion, but it's better to hear it from the horse's mouth. Check out all the Bob Daisley interviews on this subject. He puts EVERYTHING into perspective. Ozzy doesn't write shit (never has). Bob Daisley wrote all of Blizzard & Diary's music and lyrics and most of BATM. Randy Rhodes (of course) co-wrote all the music with Daisley on the first two albums. It's logical to see the shift in "Ozzy's" song styles after Daisley left the band. It sounded totally different, because there was another group of songwriters that took over. I'm not bashing Ozzy, but c'mon... he can barely tie his shoes. How can a logical and prudent person actually think he can write music? He's just a money making, meal ticket puppet for Sharon's machine.

Not just a great player - a great person as well... I've never really heard him speak very often but during this segment he's really down to earth and super cool !!! And of course an incredible player who had such a great and original approach to his playing. He had a killer LA tone and feel much more like King Edward and not like RR at all. I know he was in Ratt and wrote a ton of killer shit with Robin Crosby (RIP). He was roomates with Warren DiMartini when he got the Ozzy gig and recommend Warren for the Ratt spot. DiMartini was so young then and grew up in Ratt. He ran through these 80's Laney Amps and could barely control the volume at first... Jake on the other hand had an unbelievable control of a screaming loud rig playing really chunky killer riffs which are extremely difficult to contain and control - especially at a wicked loud volume - completely awesome control and technique. Jake was probably the best player to come out of the post EVH scene. Just unbelievable riffs and tone with total control. Amazing and totally underated player for certain and by far my personal favorite Ozzy player and songwriter

Spot on. In fact when Jake moved to LA from San Diego around 1980 he quickly became the main guy there too, his peers already considered him the best player in LA, not Rhoads, not Lynch, or Cavazo. There are few interviews here on KZbin where people like Craig Goldy and Greg Chaisson confirm this. Jake was the king in the early 80s, and stayed up there with Badlands too.

Jake E Lee was Ozzy "best" guitarist from a technical stand point; but Randy had better material to work with, was more strikingly original, & more melodic (which is what matters the most). Zakk rocked harder but Jake is extremely under appreciated
