Bark at the Moon is all anybody talks about. The other album Jake did with Ozzy, the Ultimate Sin is full of amazing music, and as far as Jake E Lee's wizardry, wipes the floor with BATM. 'Never' 'Lightening Strikes' 'Killer of Giants', the title track - none of it is remembered, Ozzy never played any of it live after the tour ended for it. It's one of the great Ozzy records - Jake is on fire, and Ozzy, with the money and the booze (as well as a certain sadness about RR) just ballooned in weight and as a direct result his voice was more powerful and passionate than at any time in his entire career. Just listen to 'Never' and tell me that isn't Ozzy at his most powerful.

I mean he's amazing in sabbath, especially on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in '74. But i think there is an urgency and passion in his voice on Ultimate sin that is unlike anything he had ever done. His voice is huge. Some of his best singing.

Interesting story for me.... I was having a drink and a late night dinner at the bootlegger in Las Vegas. (Local spot south strip)... the bartender and I were discussing favorite guitar riffs of all time and another fella was joining in... they named theirs and I said “the intro from bark at the moon just crushed” and the other guy says “thank you”.. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together when he said his name was Jake... it was Jake e lee... much older than what I remember so it through me off .. cool dude and good talk

I like how Jake changed it a bit. It wasn't so much change that it was ruined and he made it his own while maintaining the integrity of the piece. Randy changed his own solos. He improvised on occasion. It gets boring playing the same exact solo every time. Even when they're brilliant solos. I actually started using one of Jake's techniques after seeing this video. When the second solo starts, right after the interlude, Jake does the triads using hybrid picking. I've had trouble playing those triads like they're written. For some reason it's always been easier for me to play 4 note groups than 3. I started using hybrid picking and now I have no trouble with them. Why go see it live if it's going to be exact like the studio recording? It's cool to see how bands pull off songs that have overdubs in the studio recording, in a live setting. If Randy was a God (and I don't argue that) then Jake is, at least, a demi-god. He to has some brilliant solos. Like Bark at the Moon, Rumblin' Train etc... I'm not sure why anyone feels compelled to be negative about Jake, he had some HUGE shoes to fill and did a damn good job.

@salparadise48044 жыл бұрын
Agreed. His snare drum was mighty - leading the charge, constant and valiant! That was his Paiste RUDE period. I had a full set of those back in 1984. In fact I was the first guy to get them in the whole Bay Area. I love those things and I still have a few - a Sound Edge bottom (with an ancient 2002 black logo bottom on top) and 18/20/22" Crash-Rides. The 1983 22" Ride/Crash was the first one I bought, and the only one that didn't eventually break, so that's a treasure. If you want to see/hear some nice Tommy drumming - check out the Whitesnake Live at the Hammersmith Apollo 2004.

It's well documented that they bought Daisley out for the publishing rights to the material, at least on BatM, for a lump sum. If I recall, it was like 30-60k. Bad deal for Daisley, considering the subsequent sales.
