I would listen to Jake for hours if I could. I hope people appreciate how special this person's voice is. It's as natural sounding as cicadas on a hot summer day, and people who have that level of a natural sound are special talents worthy of total artistic respect. Absolutely sick

I look to my community young people are carrying on song, ceremony ,language. They did this because the ancestors run through thier blood. They will continue our tribal ways as always. We must support them guide where we can. Love them for being proud. Just my thoughts 🌍✌🏽

I'd also like to add that I hope other Indigenous persons (I am L'nuk) aren't dogging him for some English in these songs. Nobody more than me (maybe as much as me...) wishes I lived in a completely L'nuk populated Mi'kma'ki where I and the rest of us were monolingual in Mi'kmaw, but that isn't where things are right now. Right now, First Nation people need to connect with People of Nations not their own, and there is no universal Turtle Island language. I don't know what the next two centuries will bring, but maybe by then we won't need English, Spanish,, or French to speak to each other. In this present time, I have absolutely no issues with round dance songs containing English. Not to mention that the comments about not using English are in English for the exactly same reason a round dance song uses English- to be understood. And again, Jake here has one of the more moving and effective voices I've heard from an Indigenous person. Little bit jealous even. :)

As someone who grew up apart from my First Nation community and went my first 20 years in life thinking I was just a white dude who had Asian looking features before learning I was more genetically Mi'kmaq than anything, I've been learning L'nuk ever since. I hope to be as fluent as possible before I die. That said, I don't mind round dance songs and such that use English and I don't judge for it mostly because it allows Indigenous people from nation to nation understand the songs. However sad and tragic it is that Indigenous people need intertribal unity to this day for so many reasons, the reality is that it is needed, and unfortunately English language facilities that. On another note, as an Indigenous artist I often daydream about a what it would be like for two parents of a child to be, to attempt raising the first monolingual Indigenous child of their Indigenous language in a long long time, making them the only monolingual Indigenous person on Turtle Island. What would that story be? How would that play out both in terms of what it would cost the child, and give the child? The parents? The community, the non Indigenous surrounding community? I think about that often
