He is Marc's the most dangerous and interesting personality because we don't know anything about him. I'm glad he didn't stay in the sarcophagus forever and went outside.

I truly needed a whole second to recognize Oscar Isaac there on Jake's official debut. No makeup, no actual transformation, he simply made a true Christopher Reeve move right there. His facial features and acting makes he himself own a whole new face without any sort of aid there. We've been talking about how smoothly and perfectly he shifted between Marc and Steven on spot but that's a whole other level...

If Steven is the manifestation of Marc's compassion, his mercy, and his love, which he felt for Randall, Layla, and even his mother (something that causes him great shame because of how awful she was to him) then Jake is his sadness and anger. Anger at the unfairness of his life, at how even when he tried to play by the rules and gain some control, he was still in danger and left out in the cold like with Marc's discharge from the military and with Bushman shooting him and was especially angry at his mother for abusing him and his father for not making her stop. Jake is the embodiment of these lyrics from the Imagine Dragons song Natural, "Rather be the hunter than the prey." So, he's cold, unforgiving and ruthless to a world that hurt him first and refuses to give it or anyone in it a chance to hurt him again, and he treats those who have already hurt him with particular malice and takes pleasure in their suffering, Harrow being a prime example. Why couldn't we see him interact with Marc and Steven!?!?

It seems like Jake is still hiding from the others like Marc was from Steven. Those 2 may have learned to cooperate & coexist but its clear that at least at this point Jake has no interest in doing so. I feel like what you said is a good possibility of which each alter represents and what purpose they each serve. For me I feel like Steven is the sort of person Marc wants to be; intelligent, kind, has a loving relationship with his mother, has not a drop of blood on his hands, embodies aspects of his brother (and shares interests with his wife) and prior to their lives crashing together, was fairly happy. Steven is Marc's happy place, where he can go when things just get to be too much. Meanwhile Jake is the aspects of himself he wants to repress. Where Steven is Marc's happy place, Jake is where Marc's bitterness, anger and desire for revenge live as you said. All of Marc's skills, partnered with all that unresolved trauma and clearly far fewer scruples than Marc (and especially Steven). I wonder if that's one of the reasons Jake is being so secretive, he's the part of them Marc is ashamed of and Steven doesn't even know exists.

Marc absolutely loves Steven and wants to protect him, as a way of self preservation. So if Steven is "pure" then it makes it sense that he'd try to repress Jake who Marc might see as the "dirty" part of himself. If hes the one to experience all of Marc's pain as well he may represent the parts of himself he doesn't like.

I am so in love with the concept of Jake speaking spanish in the show, as a spanish speaker myself it its intriguing about the possible scenarios and the emotionally charged scenes we can get with a character who uses violence to finish the job of self-preservation at all costs, but also uses a language often associated with emotional depth, being a romance language not only amplifies the good feelings, it can describe various areas in the spectre of emotions from love to turmoil in various and distict degrees.🤩 I wish for a second season

I believe Jake was how Marc dealt with the terrible things he's done. Steven was the goodness that Marc was trying to preserve but Jake is tough. He doesn't fold under pressure no matter what and he'll kill anyone to get ahead. Marc may be better at fighting but Jake is merciless

Personally, I like the theory that says that Jake is the one that actually took the beatings, while Steven was literally just meant to be completely oblivious to them and the shitty reality they were in. Jake never intentionally made himself known to Marc and Steven because HIS purpose is to protect them both. But it makes sense that someone who exists solely to be beaten would become bitter and ruthless and ready to kill anyone.
