I was once a motorcycle messenger for Western Union International in Hawaii where I grew up. I used a Honda Super 90 to deliver my telegrams and put thousands of miles on that machine, and it never complained or gave me any trouble at all. The only thing I ever had to maintain on it was change the points and condenser, change the oil and sparkplug periodically. I never even had to adjust the valve lash for all of those miles! I have now a 1970 Honda trail 90 in near mint condition. I will never sell it. That particular Honda 90 CC mill is one of the best engines man has ever produced.

Jake Master.... You are a Serious Fabricator..... Im hanging with you till you blew me away with the electric diagram on the honda light system and then incorporated a start swich within and added contact tabs and wiring.... That my Man was some serious ingenuity ! Totally impressed..... and i've only seen one video!

Such a good feeling seeing an engine come together. Also this series has been super useful. I'm taking a look at some CT90s this weekend to restore and I'm loaded with a lot more knowledge now when I go to take a look. Thanks!

I enjoy the series and your humor. Comment on rings: I would have installed them in the cylinder and measured the end gap before installing them on the piston.

SO glad you don't use grease for assembly lube, as grease displaces oil.

I just received a Honda CT90 and your video was great ..My CT 90 was only 3 when it died. I am about to go through the electrical system. I use a cork type gasket paper. when replacing gaskets. they squash nicely.

I once made a carb bowl gasket for a Farmall from a cereal box. It has ran perfect for the about 15 years now. I just had to very lightly coat it in rtv sealer.

Eagerly awaiting! I paid 10x what you did for my CT90, and I have also blown by you in buying a gasket kit. But I need to take it apart to put it back together. Lead on!!! I love your "cross purposing", esp. that valve compression device! That was awesome (IMO)

Enjoying the series very much. A question though. No concerns about tolerances of the valve stem in the valve guide letting oil pass? I'm wondering if that's what's up with my engine.
@jenniesgarage
@jenniesgarage 8 жыл бұрын
I think that typically the reasons for oil burning is either piston ring/cylinder issues, or the rubber valve stem seals. I won't say much about my bike because I don't want to spoil the series for you, but keep watching. In the beginning of part 11 I briefly talk about something that is similar to your issue. thanks!

I was just going to write and tell you that, while I appreciate being thrifty, reusing that intake valve was the last straw! But then I see that you replaced it. : ) It was likely why the engine wasn't running well, because of the unleaded fuel.

That piston needed more work. Still looked rough around the grooves. Why no assembly paste? It’s cheap as chips.

I know its just a budget build, and its been sometime since it was new, But as a journeyman mechanic, Its really painful to watch this guy work. At least he has a sense of humor and a lot of knuckle busters to show for it, just put some more grease on it, LOL!!!!!

Ahh what a shame :-(, ive made time wasting mistakes as well, you never feel quite so happy the second time round :-(. But its a little engine and easy to work with so you can perfect the gasket matching, and with clever editing it looks as if nothing had happened, awaiting a re upload of this video ha ha :-)) Hope its got spark, oops thats the brain jumping in without my permission lol.

Eh, i'm out. I stuck around to part 5 but using axle grease as assembly lube, leaving gaskets out, not even measuring tolerance of anything, i can't do it. There's cheap, and theres stupid cheap, and part 5 is thoroughly into stupid cheap territory. A harbor freight micrometer is 15 bucks, theres literally no reason to not at lease know if the parts you're putting in are remotely in spec.
@guzziwheeler
@guzziwheeler 4 жыл бұрын
Nothing against a low budget restoration, but to save on the cheap, but vital seals, that's just bungling. You mistreat poor Honda just like her previous owner did. You're just totally stingy, that doesn't go with that Porsche you are hiding under the cover in your garage.
