Ive never seen a fiberglass guitar. Lol. He kinda cuts his own throat here. Anybody who knows guitars knows that "the best guitar" "that Vince would want" was the best thing to be hit with! The expensive guitars are actually the flimsiest. They are made to vibrate. Therefore the best guitars have the thinnest woods used on them. The cheap ones are the ones made like tanks because they dont have to sound good, and its faster to throw one together without having to sand material off. Jake you became a junkie because you chose to take drugs. Its all on you buddy. Dont try to blame others for it.

Speaking as both a guitar player with 15 years of experience, and a lifelong fan of wrestling, there is absolutely no way that was a gimmicked guitar. A gimmicked guitar will splinter and fall apart on impact. He took 4 or 5 good shots and it still remained intact for the most part, breaking apart in huge chunks instead of splintering. Not only was it not gimmicked, it wasn't a cheaply made guitar either.

I think Honky Tonk Man is one hell of a stand up guy, I've picked him up at airports and given him rides to and from shows when he would work at my dad's promotion, and I actually got to "lock up" with him in the ring once. He was always a class act whenever I saw him. Where as Jake Roberts showed up to a show I was at drunk out of his mind to the point that he randomly fell over multiple times in the middle of his match. Its great that he got better, but I don't think "he knows what he's done" should be taken seriously coming from him.

Definitely There are lots of clips showing HTM delivering his trademark "El Kabong" to other wrestlers, and each time, the guitar disintegrates nicely, but the one he El Kabonged the Snake with stayed together, plus HTM's aim was off, resulting in him hitting the Snake with the edge instead of the originally intended center of the back. The edge of the guitar is far sturdier.

1:57, YES! confirms what i've said or heard of Jake himself admitting in various interviews that not all wrestlers wanting or needing a major title to get over! Piper was another one but he had also the U.S. title in the NWA and the I.C. belt in the old WWF etc. Jake got over on his character and gimmick (and creepy ass Snake in the sack) and his mindgames with opponents, because of the snake and when he'd bring it out and use it!

I've seen that clip of HTM smashed that guitar on him, But HTM claims that guitar was gimmicked, but in the clip it looks to be solid as, HTM shoots about how it took JTSR 2 years before he got any treatment done on his neck after that incident, so I don't know who telling fibs, funny thing is, there is a clip of both of them sitting next to each other at signing and the HTM does not look to impressed.

HTM was told to bust it and it was at Jakes expense the guitar wasn't propped right. HTM was told to break it but in no way is it Jakes fault not going to upper management beforehand. He wouldn't have known it was poorly designed. It's not HTM's fault if I came across like it is. He was thrown in their too I just hope he doesn't act like it didn't do damage. I don't blame him for Jakes drug habits but it's possible an injury like that made the addictions worse.

HTM just gets handed a guitar like he does for any other match that someone else prepares. People with broken necks get surgery, not wrestle for 2 year straight 6x/wk. Wrestlers in those days especially worked hurt a lot. Because if you did not work a show you won;t get paid or if you miss a few you loose a promising angle and therefore loose more money. And Wrestlemania is a huge pay day more than any other PPV or show. People limp and crawl even now to get into those matches. I heard a lot of the older guys say in interviews that "You haven't learned to work till you work hurt."

If Pat Paterson and his partner were the ones who reckoned they'd "gimmicked" the guitar then they deserve most of the blame of course. Hearing Honky's side of the story though leads me to think that he and Jimmy Hart took part in gimmicking the guitar too and Jake said elsewhere that Jimmy apologized after it happened as if to say he felt responsible. So maybe those involved thought they'd made the guitar safe to hit someone with, but from Honky's account it was a bit of an amateurish piece of stunt work and Jake paid the price for that.
