As an autistic person myself, johnnie and Jake's videos are one of my safe programmes. I've always struggled with making friends. Hopefully 1 day I Will have a friendship like Jake and Johnnie's 😁🖤 I was also told when I was younger that I wasn't autistic because I was making a eye contact. 16 years later they are Wrong

My parents tried to get me diagnosed when I was a toddler and the person said I couldn't have it bc I make eye contact and respond to my name 😐 (Being afab also makes it harder to get diagnosed) And my family doesn't have the resources to get me diagnosed and even tho ik I mostly likely have it I wish I could tell ppl that I do without feeling like a fraud

I make eye contact because all my life I was yelled at to look in eyes. People forget that just because you’re autistic doesn’t mean the world moves that way too. With conditioning and trying to fit in you create a mask to protect yourself from being the odd one out

I didn’t get diagnosed with ADHD until i was 21 because it’s harder to spot in females (although if you look up the signs in females, I match pretty much all of them, so if somebody had just bothered to look into it, it would have made my adolescence so much easier) also everybody always told me I was just anxious even though I knew it was more than that. I had to work really hard and spend a lot of money just to get in the room with a doctor. Once I got the diagnosis nothing changed initially. I wasn’t in therapy, couldn’t get meds. But even just having my thoughts confirmed was such a weight lifted off my shoulders. So I completely understand what Jake is saying. Sometimes you just need someone to say “you’re not making this up. This is why you are the way that you are. It’s not all just in your head”

Everything Jake is saying is pretty much describing my childhood. I always knew something wasn’t right and that I wasn’t like everyone else. I did so many tests growing up, and a little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with autism and adhd. It’s a lot harder for girl and women to be diagnosed. I am just like Jake in the sense that I had to teach myself these skills in order to come across as normal. I have always been mentally younger than my real age and to this day I am a 23 year old woman but feel like I’m in the body of an emotional 8 year old. I’m so glad more people are talking so openly and honestly about this

wish my psychologist had that dedication. i did it through video call and he just said it’s obvious to him when people are autistic because of the way they talk and i’m talking normally to him. i was a little surprised when jake came out with this diagnosis for the same reason, he seems so normal on camera. i might never know what’s wrong with me, but i’m proud of jake for speaking about it so openly

Women tend to get undiagnosed more compared to men. My mom was diagnosed when she was in her late 30s to early 40s. I send lots of compassion your way❤

@@mailekeech7595diagnoses open the door to accommodations in the workplace/school and validation to those who trust the efficacy of clinical diagnosis. I personally prefer the term “self suspecting” but I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with self diagnosis as long as said person has actually done extensive research and recognizes the limitations of their own perception.

@mailekeech7595 You can do all the research you want, but it wouldn't be wise to "diagnose yourself". There are disabilities that mimic autism like NVLD. That is why it is always best to see a professional and express your concerns so that they can assess you properly.

This is exactly what happened to me.. originally I was diagnosed with adhd but I was looking around at other people with adhd and would open up to them and most of them couldn’t relate I always felt like it was something more and I was right

I looooove this. I'm so happy that Jake is so open about his autism diagnosis. Having disabilities can be a struggle. Having friendship issues because of your disabilitie(s) can be even harder. Jake helps people (including myself) feel much less alone when he is so open and also when he is so comfortable about his diagnosis. ❤ He deserves lots of credit for that. He's inspiring. ❤

In my case I think I also had similar experiences. I also spent a lot of time on the internet and had a hard time understanding social interactions. It scared me a lot and I couldn't do them naturally. Thanks to Jake gor sharing

a thought I will always share as someone trying to get an autism diagnosis is this (it applies to all neurodivergences). A diagnosis will not make someone think they are different, they will know that anyway. Instead they will be able to see that they are struggling with certain things because they have ASD, ADHD, BPD or the like instead of thinking that they are just stupid, useless, oversensitive, overreacting or just not trying hard enough.

i can relate to jake a lot, like no matter what i went through i always was like man what is wrong with me, why do i have this certain behavior pattern or just feelings that i dont understand. but now im 20, and i look back on my life as a kid and it makes so much sense of why im autistic and its much easier to know why i feel the way i do. and its always nice to hear that im not alone in that.

Thank you for this video As Some with Austium i struggle with making friends and had to be in a specail program i finally was able to get some help from the government with money as i dont work since its hard finding work i to was diagonesd with ADHD and went to differnt Specailists Therepist since i was kid i was told i wouldnt be able to read write talk go to school i was always told you would not be able to do things and no but i have completed all those things in my life i saddly cant life on my own i have to live with my parents

Bro I felt that when he said he had to basically keep fighting for the diagnosis. I'm doing the same because they have such an outdated way of testing the autism spectrum that a lot of autistic and audhd people don't get slapped on because they 'function normally' from a superficial perspective. Like he said it is something you'd see more when getting to know someone vs seeing them at a glance!

@@hairiseverythingI don’t have autism/ I am not autistic, however my friend does have autism and she always said when she was younger she was bullied for it so now she says “it’s not something I have it’s something I am” however for other people it may be the other way round as in they don’t they it makes them they just think they have it. @@hairiseverything seems more polite and “correct” nowadays to say someone “has” autism or is on the spectrum rather than just calling them autistic. i think it’s because of how much the latter has been used to bully or insult people, especially kids. saying they “have” it makes it seem more like a condition and less like there’s something just fundamentally wrong with you. i do think different people prefer different things though. i personally used to get called autistic for my weirdness in middle school, and i’ve recently realized they might’ve been right. if i actually am autistic, stating it the way you are just makes me think back to those bullies and wouldn’t feel like the best way to describe it at all

Now i know why i like this guy. Probably i also have adhd/autism and i tend to like those ppl. I feel his pain. I also didn’t know for a long time whats going on. Only the 3. Doc started to mention autism. Then when i looked more into things inrealized probably i have both and things make sense now. The realization don’t fix everything for sure but helps finding ways to handle my problems and also to be more nice with myself. I can be so angry at myself when i mess up things. For me also a relief that i found herbs/supplement what can help a bit ( i take rhodiola rosea, valerian, tirosine and other basic stuff like magnesium). Healthy diet, enough sleep and more exercise also helpful for me to feel better. I don’t hate it at all. I mean i like my way of thinking even if it’s strange for many but ppl like us i think can struggle a lot and we need to figure out how can we make our life better

as a diagnosed autistic person, I can tell you that he's telling the truth, you can see in his his videos and when he talks about his experiences, just the way that he acts and his icks with textures, are pretty clear signs. Sometimes you can clearly see him stimming. When I look at him I recognize most of my own behaviors. What he said about learning to do simple things such as maintaining eye contact or conversation (aka masking) is another clear indicator. Also it's impossible for him to have "fallen prey" to people who wanna push medications because there isn't any medication or any cure for autism

The eye contact he has, is honestly amazing. But you can still see the lack of wanting to make it. His eyes travel a lot.

@@arialisestrellaartistrythis sounds ignorant, this is why some people arent taken seriously by doctors when they talk about feeling like they have autism, because too many of these practitioners quickly judge based on a “look”. But not everyone with autism acts the same, or dresses and feels the same. There are differences across the spectrum. There is also no medication that “cures” autism so..
