I recently attended Day6's concert and it hit me hard when I heard the old songs being sung and I couldn't take out Jae's vocals from my head. When song's like "Congratulations"'s opening line, "Dance Dance" his 'ahem, Dance with me' and many more. It was a bittersweet feeling that night, happy and blessed I get to finally see DAY6 performing live but at the same time the heartache knowing that Jae is not part of my DAY6 concert memory. It could be my wishful thinking but I hope one day I could see DAY6 perform again as 5, it would really be the day I cry.

You can tell he did a lot of reflecting and he's aware of his mistakes, but at the same time people not ginving the credit he deserves is quite painful. I wish people would stop putting idols on such a pedestal and realize that they are human and can make (big) mistakes but that that doesn't make someone a bad person. To me, Jae will always be an important part of day6, even if he left the band. He was there from the beginning and he contributed to the group as much as everyone else. And he has every right to be proud of where they are now because again he also contributed to that up until he left. Wish him only the best and hope to see more great stuff in the future! Sending all the love from Korea, actually (from an exchange student). PS: I totally get him on the group responsibility thing. Korea has an incredibly collectivist society and so if you want to or not, you are part of the group and you will be held resposible for others' mistakes. As a German myself, this is quite a strange way of handling things but overall, I feel like there's less finger pointing going on, I could be wrong about that though. I don't think I would like it either though, especially since I grew up in a totally different envirenment to Korea, just like Jae did. It can be difficult to adapt to these things and ultimately he realized that this mindset didn't fit with his values, unfortunetaly he found out the hard way.

I discovered DAY6 because of Jae back in 2016-2017. I attended two concerts which included Jae. As a westerner, it is hard to understand the Korean culture as it applies to the K-pop business. I wish Jae all the best and want him to be proud of his work while involved with DAY6. I also want him to feel free to create again whether it be songs that are similar to his past band music or other directions. His talent should not be hidden away. 힘내세요.

I haven't listened to an interview with Jae in a while so it's crazy hearing just how calmer, more level-headed, and slower-paced he sounds now. He was such an integral part of the group and was really the biggest factor for why up until recently Day6's fanbase was primarily international fans. I felt for a long time he never felt truly comfortable in his skin at JYP and it's refreshing to see he's done a lot of reflecting on how things played out. You can tell he's a deep thinker and really has thought about these things a lot. I am glad he holds himself accountable for his mistakes. I do miss the signature sound Day6 had while he was in the group and I think that reflects a lot on how much he was contributing musically. I'm looking forward to seeing more of what he puts out solo but he will always in my heart still remain an eternal member of Day6.

There may be nostalgia in the past, but Jae has already been a soloist in the US for more than three years and is making music that reflects his own color 100%, and you will see once you hear that it is too far from Day6 music now. It is desirable that Jae officially denied the rumor in this interview, and since Jae's musical career began with Day6, the interviewer is naturally asking what could be the interviewee's story, and you can feel that Jae's comments were made quite carefully and with a lot of thought. Day6 and eaj have already changed their musical consumers, so they can leave the past years as a page in their 20s and do their own music in their respective places.

it's been bizarre to see the reaction on twitter. i don't want to sound like i'm pushing the "cancel culture!!1!" narrative, because i believe many people just want accountability, and i don't really think most people ever get actually "cancelled" anyways lmfao. but speaking as someone who has been a myday since 2017 and was very upset with jae when all his shit went down... it has been making me feel crazy to watch people who either 1) have never been much of a fan of day6, knowing nothing about their history or 2) only watched a couple 2-minute clips on twitter make him out to be: - clout-chasing: he is on his own tour rn doing press. he didn't ask to be asked about day6, and he has mentioned feeling sorry for bringing drama in interviews and other situations prior to this one. this isn't a one-off thing that was timed to happen while day6 happened to achieve massive charting success. this was filmed in advance! i saw that he had just arrived in korea when this dropped - having a pity party: he repeatedly clarified that he didn't feel erased by the band members themselves, and that it was moreso the company and fans/gp erasing his contributions. he worked hard to promote them, of course he'd feel some type of way. he also actually had a very balanced take on the fourever thing- his gut reaction was sadness, which would be natural given how much time he spent in the band, but he ultimately understood the reason why and still wished them well and showed them a lot of love. he was asked hard questions and chose to answer them candidly. - having a total lack of self-awareness: i have checked back in on him over the years bc i am nosy lol, but also bc i always hope for people to grow. and from watching other interviews, i have seen that he has repeatedly acknowledged that wounds were fresh and he expressed his feelings in a way that was volatile and hurtful to others. he seems very aware that his actions had consequences and that he made his own bed in some aspects. he has taken a lot of accountability as more time has passed and he even rejects some of the excuses zach throws out; jae was Not young when he was on that downward spiral! immature, certainly. but young... no. this interview doesn't have to warm you back up to him, a Lot of shit was said and it's understandable to just not feel the same way as you once did. hell, *i* even don't! but i Do see more of the guy i initially became a fan of, and i feel optimistic about that. the disingenuousness by claiming he only wants clout or that he even "left the group because he wanted to be a twitch streamer" is really irking me. there's way, way more nuance that the conversation surrounding his exit requires. we've got to be more objective here. i am glad to see introspection and (consistent!) accountability from him, and i wish him well on his journey to bettering himself and healing

@@khesyamaraon478 Exactly. And it's not like he'll just dismiss any mentions of the band or when people ask his thoughts about his time there. I think that's actually worse, because it's kind of sweeping away the memories that were had and the good parts that were there. Plenty of us already know about the less-than-ideal situations back then, but I think it's always good that Jae and later on; the rest of the members can freely open up and just talk about the good things that happened with Day6. Plus, if they wanna talk about the less than ideal moments, why not? They were a real team, a real band, dealing with real problems within JYPE. Jae's not there anymore, but that shouldn't stop any of them from just being honest. They're all in or nearing their 30s now, I don't think we should apply any pressure over them to stop them from talking about this stuff. So yeah, I agree. It's hard to just not talk about it since they've been living that life for a decade.

It does feel a bit weird listening to Day6 songs without Jae’s voice in them now. I still love Day6 but their sound doesn’t sound as powerful anymore. Jae brought allot to their sound and I don’t know if they realize that. I feel so bad that Jae feels like he’s a burden, sadly, that’s just how the Korean industry world is. Not too many mixed Asians last in that industry if you’ve noticed. They always end up departing. I mean look at Jessica from SNSD, same thing. It was major. I also can’t wrap my head around the fact that Jae admitted JYP never wanted Day6 to be known in America ???? I mean why??? I feel like most of their fan base is out of Korea 🤔. Is it because they don’t want to spend money to promote them anywhere but Korea? Or do they think they’ll get tainted by a foreign audience??? I mean WHAT?!?!? EDIT: Well I do remember Jae admitting that the majority of the money the band made was used to promote Twice instead of the money actually going back to them. Maybe that’s why. I hope it’s not the same if it’s true. If it’s true then the band deserves better. Regardless I’m happy Jae is doing better, he deserves it.

I like that he grew and adapt to the team mindset taught in Korea, I really like the idea of it. I thought having the team all halt activities because of one member is natural, no? Because it affects them mentally wherever they go as a group, interviewers will naturally ask them about the other member and it helps to keep each other accountable and step up the plate, because if you messed it up, you're ruining it all for everyone who worked so hard on it. If the team won, all the credit goes to the whole not just one individual. It humbles a person and teaches them to not take anything for granted and helps built leaders among each other who will actively be alert and look out for each other in case they fall short. In a way it's like family, we're in it together no matter the wins or loss.

Jae, you and I, for completely different things I feel, but you and I both can see some stuff is just unfortunate. You can't entirely blame yourself and you can't entirely blame others. But you still feel mad and you still feel hurt and you still feel bad about how your actions, words and your way made others feel hurt and mad. And you understand them more and more but you also understand yourself more and more. I imagine if you read this comment, maybe it's a bit too vague, but I imagine you'd agree. Stuff just still hurts. Even when you can look back with tons of gratitude and when you grow in allowing yourself to receive grace too, it doesn't mean stuff doesn't hurt. And Jae I want to tell you, and ik it sounds so clishe, but you are loved, not just by fans and friends and family but by God first and foremost. You are loved with a perfect love. I think the relationship you had/have with the label and the band is a reflection of imperfect love. You should have been accepted the way you were and nurtured to grow. And well, of course, it goes both ways, you probably know the ways in which your love toward the people in the label and in the band was imperfect. Just please know yeah it's just unfortunate like that. Don't look at these things too much as a reflection of what you deserve bcs of your flaws, it's not like that. It's just a big mess. We all have flaws, perfect love means noone sugarcoats that for us but simultaneously we receive kindness, grace, and don't get abandoned, but people for us and stay with us. Not at all faulting the label or the band for anything here, just saying - that's the type of love God has for you, that's the type of love we ought to receive, but it's so difficult for us to give each other such love. But you are defined by the God of the universe - His thoughts about you are the truth about you, and He wants to love you with His perfect love. See your identity in the reflection of His perfect love for you, see your identity in His thoughts for you. Other people's thoughts are not completely ireelevant, but they're NOT a reflection of your identity. I think you probably already know this, but idk, if you happen to read this... maybe it's at a time at which it's a good reminder? I wish you all the best. It's actually a bit frustrating writing just a small portion of my thoughts in a youtube comment. I would love to have a real time conversation with you! And I want you to know that as much as I too wish Day6 all the best I couldn't even get myself to listen to songs I already knew until like a few days ago. Idk how long it's been! I have not listened to any of the newer songs released after you left except one on accident. It took so long for me to even listen to just a few of the familiar ones. You still are so integral to Day6 for me. I think I might listen to Day6's newer stuff soon now that I'm almost conceptualizing it as a different band. Also honestly I think the culture crash may have made some people genuinely unable to see how good you were for the band. Your writing, composing, your vocals, your personality, your promoting the band in various ways, you were so, so good for the band. I frgn witnessed it, I was there when people online were sharing about how they found out about Day6. You hooked so many people either through your vocals in a certain song or your youtube channel or your ASC hosting. Then Day6's overall artistry and everyone's personality and skills and each song being so good was what really fanned the flames of people's love for Day6 and made the band so big and so loved. You hooked so many people though.

My experience online and living in Korea was has been that you really get blamed as soon as you even just slightly disturb the desired „mood“. As soon as you just slightly step outside of the lines others have decided on, you will receive a lot of blame and criticism, whether it is objectively bad or not, whether it had real negative consequences or is just simply different from what others decided on. I‘m neither American nor Korean so from my perspective both cultures can take the individualistic vs collectivist approach to the extreme and neither is good. I’ve met a lot of young Koreans who also criticised that about the communities in which they grew up or even about their own country, but it was mostly those who already generally had more interest in foreigners and other cultures (because the others wouldn’t even speak with me if they could avoid it, despite me knowing Korean). I didn’t meet a lot of Americans in my life but I imagine that you’d also find a lot of them who are more moderate about the „ego trip“ that is often associated with the USA and its people. So I want to be clear that I don’t want to generalise, but to a certain extent we all get socialised by our surroundings and in relative terms the US and Korea are at nearly opposite ends when it comes to viewing people as individuals or a collective/community. And if either is taken too far, it’ll cause problems.

Until this day, is hard to forgive JYPE for what they did to Jae. He was the only one working his ass off to promote the band, working on KZbin, hosting TV shows, and being active on social media, but they did him dirty. He wrote many good songs for the band, and his voice was crucial for them, still, they had the guts to let him go. Day6 was my favourite band, and since Jae left, it's hard for me to like they're new releases.

Tbh jyp is kind of an ego driven ceo. I have long since thought he should have more separation between himself and the company's management. Hes so focused on himself as himself and as an artist that he isnt good for managing groups and doesnt market them well nor developing young talent as human beings. Glad hes doing well and has learned from the experience

If you guys even watched the entire thing, he mentions at the end is that he hates being mentioned with the name of DAY6, because he hates being a burden on them. Anytime anyone thinks of Jae with DAY6 its all just negativity and people start "going away" from the band because of his "image." So don't even dare think that Jae hates DAY6 - those are literally his boys and he still keeps contact with them lmao.

That was a joke and they were good friends. He is sarcastic ass, so, yeah, I understand him. Jamie was like a lil funny sister to him, I guess, and then she became...adult adult on public, like it was really different. But he should say that not on stream and not that harshly mb, because she is a girl, and girls are more easier to be offended. The problem is that people who were raised not in Asia always suffers there, because they built different, they know individualism, but Asia is about collectivism (and other differences). It's not even surprising that K-pop artists, that know western culture, who become really big, are willing to promote not in Korea. There is no true freedom there as celebrity.

Jae, i’ve been a fan since FiveLive. before u guys even debuted as day6. and then u left. u chose to leave to pursue ur own interests, be it for a good reason or what, but it happened didn’t it? ur legacy in day6 would remain forever. u were part of the old day6, no one can take that from u and no one is erasing u from the history of day6. ur old songs, they’re legendary and the fans are still listening to em until today. but now, day6 is a four member band, like it or not. u moved on and pursued ur own solo career, so shouldn’t they be doing the same? they’ve released new music and albums where u’re not part of it at all. so to think that, what they’re doing is sort of like erasing u from the history of day6 is a bit too much Jae, cause u were never part of it in the first place. i get why you’re feeling this way, i mean u were a part of day6 so yea of course. but how i wish u didn’t have to say it on air like this, especially when day6 is doing so well now.

I was a big fan of Jae, even his solo work. Jae YOU left the band. I thought you were just taking some time off to clear your head maybe fix your mental health....Then BAM, you bounced.I am a BIG fan of Day6 (since debut) I am an adult and I was sooo afraid this would mean the end of the band! I am sooo glad the FOUR members are still putting out the great music the MYDAY are used to. Kinda selfish of Jae to do this while Day 6 are promoting the new album. This is about THEM not Jae.

"I am an adult" you say. Then you should act like one instead of talking the way you do. Clearly you didn't even listen to what was said in the video. Jae clearly stated his issue wasn't with the members, it's with the label. He's also on an interview answering questions that he is being asked. You say you're an adult but clearly don't talk like one with your childish comment.

Sis please be respectful. I’m pretty sure it was a mutual decision. They really can’t make moves without having many meetings. In the kpop world nothing is as colorful as it seems. I’ve been a fan of Korean music since I was 10, I’m now 24. I’ve seen so many idols go in and out of groups and trust me, 90% of the time it’s the companies fault. Jae literally said the company treated them like shit and prioritized the main groups over them. They also never got to see allot of their paycheck and never got to live a life. In order to be an idol of any kind they need to be completely conservative and silent. As Jae said in the video, “in America people are taught to rebel” in Korea idols are taught to obey and be one. He just wasn’t used to it because it’s not how he grew up. He wanted to be free. It took a strain on his health. It happens with so many mixed Korean celebrities because they’re more open minded. Just like you they are human. I’m glad Jae left the band. He’s doing better. As a “fan” wouldn’t you be happy for him? Even if wasn’t ideal for many fans it was for him. He’s not making anything about the band. He’s simply finally speaking his truth without the pressure that was put on him.

@@DaisyzDayz Oh “Sis” I am being respectful, since you do not know me, I will ask the same of you. I am addressing the FACT in the interview. I was NOT giving hate or being disrespectful or even sarcastic. I would actually love for Jae to come back and join the guys…but I DO NOT pretend to know any of them or what they want in their careers. I have been a fan of Korean music and culture since before 2pm debuted…So, sis I do understand the strain that is put on their health. I ALSO listened to Jae’s vlogs and streams before he left and I could tell that he was having a hard time.. I was thrilled when he was laughing and making his music and “seemed” happy for a while. I am just saying MAYBE, THIS WAS NOT THE TIME to talk about the band on talk shows, podcasts or live interviews. Do NOT QUESTION if I am a fan or not, I am a fan, I am NOT a mindless sheep who doesn’t have an opinion.

@@superstringer3263 clearly YOU CANNOT read.. I did not say Jae had problem with ANYONE, let alone his band members. I really have no idea why I’m even explaining this to YOU, but you can be asked pleanty of things in an interview, HOW you answer is what I was addressing. Do not try to make me out to be someone who didn’t know his issues… I watched his streams and KZbin.. I was WELL AWARE even before this interview.

@@earprg I’ll leave it at this, if you are a respectful fan you wouldn’t be upset he’s talking about Day6. It is part of him. Wouldn’t you be glad he’s finally addressing it or is he banned? He is allowed to speak about it whenever he wants. He had experience in the band no matter what and it is a big part of him regardless of how many people shame him. The comment you responded to me with and the one you originally posted both have different tones. One has hate and the other has sympathy so pick one. I understand you’re upset he left the band. It goes to show it impacted you badly. Which is okay, you’re allowed to feel, I was a bit down to but it’s in the past now and nothing is going to change. Sure a future reunion is what we want but it seems it will not happen any time soon. The best thing to do is live at let go and enjoy all of the members now that they’re still around and making music and they haven’t offed themselves yet because that’s common form all the hate they get. No one wants that. What I don’t like is that some people don’t realize these types of comments is one of the things that leads to that. If you know the kpop world is a harsh environment then why add on? Instead of spreading hate why not just keep supporting from a distance? I think it’s what the idols appreciate the most. I think it’s what they deserve the most. Once again.. kpop idols are human to. Day6 is also his and its all the fans to but it’s not only yours. Please do not respond to me. Thank you.
