Jake Willson plays Victory V30 The Countess & V40 The Duchess

In this video, Victory Amplifiers artist Jake Willson plays through V30 The Countess and V40 The Duchess heads.
Jake explains how he approaches the V30's clean and overdrive channels, talking us through his ever-changing pedalboard along the way.
He then plays the V40 The Duchess for first time and gives us his first impressions of the amp.
This video also features the new prototype Victory V212 vertical open-back 2x12 speaker cabinets. The black one contains Celestion Vintage 30 speakers; the Cream one uses Celestion G12M-65 Creambacks. Please note that these cabs are prototypes at this stage so the final spec may be different following our ongoing tests.
All the sounds in this video are recorded with an SE R1 ribbon mic and a Sennheiser e906 on the cabinets, running into a Zoom H6 recorder. The H6 also has a stereo X-Y pair onboard, so some non-direct room sound is mixed in as well. Jake's voice mic is muted during the playing sections.
Jake's overdrive/boost pedals are a TC Electronic Spark Booster, Wampler Hot Wired, JHS Sweet Tea and a Carl Martin PlexiTone.

I find it very interesting and somewhat peculiar that Jake plays the V30 with pedals in the clean channel, but I guess it makes sense. He gets 3 distinct gain stages using it this way... Boosted, Crunch, and Lead. CH2 on the V30 has A LOT of gain, so I've always associated the V30 with guys who want to get their gain from the amp and not pedals. The V40 is the quintessential pedal platform. You'll need to stack distortion pedals to get anywhere near the gain levels on the V30 CH2... That may or might not be your thing (hissing and noise). The answer for those looking to choose between the two, is... get both!

The design of the V logo seems different from the one that Jake plays and their current production model. This one definitely looks better, so I wonder if Victory still could go back to that design as a special order?

Awesome Amps, damn..Just can't decide which one would fit better my Tone... I'm looking for one of these small monsters which can handle pedals well and should produce a mix of Alice in chains, stone tample pilots and queens of the stone ages sound, what do you think which one would fit best for this kind of mix V30, V40 or may the kraken? Thanks

+fabrizio peretti I've tried all. V30 is a great all arounder, good clean, great overdrive, plays great with pedal. V40 was designed as a pedal platform in mind, great clean with some more tonal options and reverb as well. VX is great for contemporary metal, works great for hard rock/heavy metal too, channel I can do good clean if you dial down the gain/volume knob on your guitar. All great, but really depends on what you play.
