Fender finally stepped up and started putting in decent sounding pickups in their Squier "Classic Vibe" Squires, they're almost as good as the Alnico V pickups you can pick up for $30 a set on eBay, but the one Rob is playing looks to have a Seymour Duncan logo on them.

Alex, way to generalize. Strat players could say that les Paul's sound sterile and the same, if they didn't like les Paul's. Don't generalize guitar types or such. There is a reason why so many strats are made daily worldwide, people buy them. Same for Gibsons, PRS, ibanez... People associate certain guitars with a certain sound, and that keeps people from "finding" the guitar that was meant for them, sometimes.

Playing the one in the shop, we noticed the "Low" mode seemed to add a bit of gain? Or better put, the sort of clean just breaking up in high seemed to be over the edge and in the broken up section. Wasn't sure if that was just because we were hitting the strings harder because the volume was lower, but it did add something. It is a fantastic amp that can do almost everything you would ever want and not need to faff with numerous channels.

Quite interesting and revealing demo that shows us that this V40 lets us hear the strat with a strat sound, with a world of metalloid transients and harmonics (and not some cheap cardboard mish mash festival). A real joy impossible to forget.

This morning I posted a message on the Captain's Facebook page asking him if they could do a review of the V40, and this afternoon it appears on KZbin - that's what I call customer service! :) I tried this amp - probably that very box - in Anderton's just after Christmas and I love the tone. It's so clear, and although Rob and the Captain didn't do much with pedals in this video (unfortunately), I'm sure that it's a wonderful amp to run pedals through. The only downside is that it's very unforgiving - you can hear everything that's going on, like any of the other strings that you brush accidentally, which I noticed in the video. I have a DT25 and this is the first amp that's really tempting me to add to that. If I was on the lookout for my main amp, this one would be on its way to me right now. Incidentally, I also tried a PRS Hollowbody last week and I reckon that would sound wonderful through the V40. Captain Lee, why don't you sell the hollowbodies? It's a beautiful (-sounding) guitar!

I guess the Cap'n is a total Strat to LP convert now, huh? Now that's my kinda amp! I like to plug in, peg everything in the preamp section, set the power amp section as high as the room can stand, nice guitar straight in, and control the breakup with the guitar's volume knob and my fingers. Sweet. I even have some amps with a single knob!

CaptAnderton They're both great guitars, I love them both too, but if I had to pick one it would be a Les Paul, there's a few things that are just perfect with a Stratocaster and a Telecaster, and everything else is just better with a Les Paul.

This may sound ridiculous, but the Randall Diavlo has a ridiculous transparent clean channel that would also make a great pedal platform to go along with a great fx loop. I would love to see you guys put it through a versatility test with a bunch of pedals like this.

Oohh I also shielded the cavity and attached and aluminium plate to the inside of the scratch plate. Almost noiseless. It makes all the pick up options usable even with overdrive :D

I'm looking for an ultra thin neck guitar that sounds and plays great. And by ultra thin I mean ultra thin, I have really short fingers...I don't know if you do custom work (Chapman Guitars) or know someone who does. I currently have a 3/4 size Squier, but I'm looking for a really good guitar, that sounds really great. +santiago rodriguez (LightWhisperer1) i know Chapman dont do custom built guitars yet...if thin neck is your thing then look no further the Ibanez...Ibanez has the thinest necks on the market, they are called "Wizard 3"...obviously not ALL Ibanez are thin, but mostly the RG range have very thin necks..

I like the videos, but if I could make a suggestion, please show what every amp sounds like cranked. You have a soundproofed studio like room, and I'm sure the wherewithal to do sound level editing. I know most don't usually play with volume maxed, but you really should know what an amp sounds like when power tubes are pushed to get the total character of the amp. I remember a few years ago, I didn't really like Orange amps. Then I got to really play one in a place I could open it up and now I can't live without one in my setup. Just an idea, no disrespect meant.

hosenpupsi123 Dunno about the 5. The power valve is a 12BH7 which is really a pre-amp valve. It must work well because otherwise they wouldn't sell it, but the power soak is 5W or off, the TM18 has 18W - 5W - 1W - off... Obviously budget plays a part though.

I was able to try out this amp in the store (thanks to very helpful and informed staff!). I have been listening to various vids covering the subtle differences between different types of power amp valves. it would be great if you could swap the as supplied vavlves and put in 6L6 for a comparsion test? I think I'm going to buy this head, but is it even sweeter sounding with 6L6s?

+Stephen Smith In the v30 review they said they had to blind test the amps and not know what tubes were in them. They preferred the EL34's over the 6l6's on the V40, and the 6l6 over the EL34 over the v30. Plus Lee was involved in the testing of V40, so it has a touch of Lee bluesiness that everyone loves and adores, no need to ruin that with other valves!

I'm a bit unsure if I should get the V30 or the V40. I'm currently owning a Marshall Vintage Modern and I love it's Hard Rock and 80's Metal tones when pushed with a nice OD pedal (that's what I normally do with it). But I'm looking for something a bit more portable. I love the concept of one channel and using the guitars volume knob and a bit of push before the amp. The V40 seems to be able to deliver some of these late 70's dirt on it's own. Any suggestion?

Well this is Damn pricy so if ur willing to pay than by all means go and play! But there are things like the tiny terror or the blackstar ht 5 (the ht 5 can do everything) that would work too.
