Hey Jake, if you don't slow down you're gonna get a ticket.

That’s the kind of tempo that would worry a banjo picker! 😂

Awesome. Question: Does your right hand make any contact with the guitar or strings when you do this?

Set to 1.25x for a more up to speed tempo. 😂

I've never heard playing this fast and clean since Doc Watson passed.
@NashvilleTuneStream2 жыл бұрын
Doc never played at 200 Bpm! But he did pretty much invent this style of playing
@gam1471 Жыл бұрын
@@NashvilleTuneStream It depends on exactly what is meant by 200 bpm. When you see figures like this in a flatpicking context, it usually means 200 quarter notes a minute. I apologise if you know this! Doc could certainly play beyond 200 bpm - i.e. he could play at speeds beyond 200 quarter notes a minute. As an example, tap your foot and get a metronome in sync with your foot and Doc playing his composition 'Nashville Picking'. You'll find that he's playing at 132 half notes a minute, which equates to 264 quarter notes a minute (this might of course differ slightly depending on which version you work with). Listening to this piece is deceptive - he's going a lot quicker than you think. Trust me, I've learnt this one - it took me ages, and I'll never get up to Doc's speed!

Thinking more about it, there's something I should have mentioned in my above post about Doc's playing. I've since slowed Jake down courtesy of KZbin, and yes, he's playing at 200bpm - but he's playing four notes for every beat, which is an incredible 800 notes per minute. All in all, NashvilleTuneStream, I think you may well be right about Doc's picking speed. I calculate Doc's playing of 'Nashville Picking' to be 528 notes per minute (2 notes per beat at 264 beats per minute) - pretty fast going anyway! I recall putting the metronome on one of Earl Scrugg's banjo instrumentals, and it came out at about 600 notes per minute. What bothers me slightly is - where will this passion for speed end? Let's not forget the music!

I'm sorry, but this looks fake. Human hands don't look like that when they're moving fast. Unfortunately, this trend is pervasive on KZbin and Instagram. Many videos on KZbin show how it's done. I could be wrong.
@JedClark4 жыл бұрын
I totally understand why you'd say this - but Jake Workman is the real deal. This isn't sped up. If you're not a believer just go to a Ricky Skaggs and KT show.
