It's tragic. It was filming of this movie that she started experience extreme pain and fatigue. It wasn't until after the movie was finished that she was diagnosed with stage iv ovarian cancer. She underwent a full hysterectomy and doctors also removed a tumor the size of a grapefruit from her abdomen. The cancer went into remission, but due to the treatment she was receiving the National Inquirer ran a story that said that she was near death. Her husband and Haunted Honeymoon co-star Gene Wilder had to give a press briefing dispelling the rumors. Unfortunately the cancer returned and when she went to have a CT scan done, they gave her medications. Unfortunately she slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness. Three days later on Saturday, May 20th 1989, Gilda passed away with her husband by her side. A few hours later in New York, friend and fellow Saturday Night Live cast mate and the show's hose Steve Martin, holding back tears, broke the news to audience and viewers at home that Gilda had died.

I love Gilda Radner as an actress. She could take a regular conversation and turn it into the funniest you've ever seen. My favorites are Haunted Honeymoon and Hanky Panty. I'm sorry she passed away so young. I know she would've made us laugh a lot more if she would've had the opportunity to live longer. Especially working with Gene, and Delouise. These three actors were awesome. They were awesome by themselves but together they were dinamite. I'm glad we still have these memories.

I somehow missed seeing Top Gun, Ferris Bueller, and other hit movies in the theater the summer of 1986 when Haunted Honeymoon was released. I did, however, see both Haunted Honeymoon and Big Trouble in Little China in the theater and will never forget how much fun both of these movies are. Gilda was said to have been very tired from the cancer and her treatments during production and filming, but she did great and managed to fight and hold on a few more years before finally passing. What a tragedy, but we are blessed to have her here forever in this movie and all of the other works she did.

I watched this today on Comet-TV. I don't know how many people have that particular movie channel but it aired at 6pm today. If I happen to know that it's going to be on I try to watch it. An incredibly under-rated movie...you pretty much have to be a fan of the kind of programs being spoofed in order to appreciate it. As much as I like Gene and Gilda's performances (his cellar scene with the butler is hilarious) I can't over-look the obvious...Dom DeLuise as Aunt Kate. "I know that one of you is a werewolf!!!" is a line that one of my sisters and I myself used to say, out of the blue, at the dinner table. It happened to be one of the catchphrases thanks to it being played in the promo ads that aired on TV.
