Between your last video "5 Simple Tips for New Archers" and now this one that literally any archer can use regardless of how experienced they are... really showing your range Jake! Great info your getting out there as always. Keep em coming... can't get enough!

The practice range is where I do all of this 'thinking'. Once on the 'course', my mental focus is on the "spot". In my head is the mantra..."anchor...focus...pull through to shot...follow through". I'm competing with/against myself. Just want to shoot 3D courses best I can and have fun doing it.

The hardest part for me is trying not to give in to the peer pressure to be social on the line. Most people at my club are recreational shooters or seasonal hunters and they don’t compete. I don’t want people to think I’m rude so I end up talking to them but it’s really hard to keep a mental program going when you’re being distracted by someone.

When your shot process becomes the dominant thought, the distractions go away. Center shots are a byproduct of an excellent shot process.

@@Ray-ks1xp Excellent point. Any tips on how to achieve getting that to be the dominant thought, just pure willpower and mindfulness?
@Ray-ks1xp3 жыл бұрын
@@theardentarcher , persistence in application of your shot process builds confidence and confidence is the key to a successful application. In the early development of the shot process takes following scripted steps until they became second nature. When that happens it becomes a feeling more than thought.

Great video Jake and an important point cause archery isn’t only the fact to shoot the arrow to the target it is also a mental process to get to this point. Thanks again and I will definitely work on that, starting like you mentioned with 2-3 words 👍great 🎯👍

I know I had problems with my training yesterday, but the heat was a huge factor. When I quit shooting, I was as wet as if I had taken a shower-I was in no danger heat-wise, because I was still sweating, but the heat was fatiging.

I’m transitioning from instinctive to barebow, and am having a tough time not allowing my brain to “feel” the shot and release, but rather go through the process you’re describing here. I’m guessing the years of “not thinking” will take some time to replace.
@buckbond96423 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of letting the subconscious mind do what you condition it to do. I have heard it takes 10,000 repetitions to program your subconscious to do something new. Think of the individual steps as being useful in exactly the same way they were when you learned to tie your shoes. Your subconscious doesn't use steps, and outperforms conscious thought by a wide margin. Traffic emergency, brakes and steering controlled by the subconscious = close call. Conscious = wreck. Be careful not to train badly, what you do in training, you do when it's time for the real thing.

So why can't "a feeling" be your mental cue to release, instead of all the gizmos, if given enough time and practice?
@davisstellman3 жыл бұрын
In your experience, do you tend to change your hook between a split and 3under shot depending on the distance (in regards to barebow)? I know split works great at long distances because of having a big sight window but I was just curious what your thoughts are. Great videos man love your content

What is your opinion about WA voting to not include BB in World Chanpionships target events?

They don’t have the room or the capacity. Would need a serious look at a stand alone event imho. I get it. I still think it sucks though.

I think the greatest skill an amateur can learn is to let down when the shot isn’t right. You as a professional let down frequently, amateurs shoot the shot anyway & that ingrains bad habits!
@oldon58813 жыл бұрын
You need to get to the level where you feel your shot cycle and this is not beginner level. Your thinking is twisted by the lack of understanding "why you let down" and this "why" is direct related to the experience and skill level. A beginner will never let down because he doesn't know yet to listen to his body - let alone to understand what is he doing good or wrong without seeing the arrow in the target.

Hello, I'm a beginner barebow shooter and I'm having problems with my tab slipping up or down the string when I draw, I've tried having a deeper hook but it stills slips and it hard to maintain a precise string walking position. What am I doing wrong?
@Equinoxalpha6473 жыл бұрын
Hook your fingers more, so the string is in the crease of your finger joint. Also try a glove or move to Mediterranean style instead of three under.
@edgarsmith24783 жыл бұрын
@@Equinoxalpha647 Can you still aim with the tip of the arrow with mediterranean?

@@edgarsmith2478 you can but you're gonna have to change your form, likely you'd have to move to gap method.

Could be a bunch of things... Not sure what bow you are shooting, but you can try a longer bow as that will decrease the string angle. If that is not the issue you may have too high of an elbow increasing the angle of your fingers on the string causing it to be more likely to slip.. You can try changing the tiller of your bow. If none of those are the issue you can also try redoing your center serving woth powergrip instrlead of the likely Halo material may be currently served with.

A question if I may, when you wax your string, you're not waxing the serving too right?
