I've been playing eve for about 6 months, and I've really been avoiding that isk per hour mindset. I skilled into a bunch of different things so I can rotate between different types of tasks as I feel. My friends are scared off from eve because all they see are those content creators who drill isk/hr and meta. So I been trying to show them we can do whatever we feel like really.

My experience is that as soon as you get expert at an activity and really like it then CCP will either nerf it or eliminate it. It is much better to diversify your skills, try new things, and eventually it will pay off and you won't get burnt out.

It is an interesting topic overall. Some people treat games veri seriously. They want to be efficient. They want to be better than others. They think they need to specialize in one game and be really focused. Their identity is tied to "success" in the game. The they grind or train to a point they hate playing, themselves etc. They treat it like a job, without being paid for it or recognized because of it. It is a game. The only purpose of games is to have fun or to learn something useful. Play when you feel like playing. Do something else when not. Play something different if you get bored. Games are a way to explore new worlds, new interactions with other people, new roles. It is not your job.

When I was poor, I went and ran incursions to plex. They were fun group activities. It was great prep for flying in fleets. Learned Logi, Anchoring, Fleetwarping, Focusing DPS, target broadcasing, dronebunny, and make lots of ISK and LoyaltyPoints. Learned to multbox VG incursions by myself, links, logi, domi drone bunnies. At the end of the day though, fights in null were more fun. (always had mining alts in null) but the mains were fun flying in pew pew fleets. If you can afford it, buy your omega time and then the stress of plexing goes away. (have enjoyed your series, i'm getting back into eve after being gone for 5 years or so)

Something faction warfare taught me, was I just need enough to buy another shp. After that when I moved on to other activities I took that to heart for everything because at the end of the day whether its hauling with a freighter, exploring with a fancy shipped / blinged out pod It costs isk but if I already have enough to replace it I don't really need much else. I took a mentality of never having too much isk in the wallet but (like you) making sure I had the assets needed to do the activity. I also did industry, but because it wasn't the sole activity I was doing I didn't neccesarily have to worry about the loss that I did build items off of due to the fact that I was mainly doing FW and the LP that I was getting more and that more than enough paid for any loss I suffered from Industry. I enjoyed what I did with industry, and still enjoy some hacking / operation site running in faction warfare so it helps in regards to *burnout* because I actually enjoy the actions ingame.

I'd rather spend $10 and buy 2 billion ISK and then mine without stressing about money. That's my jam. One month into the game and I'm flying a skiff fitted with T2 tech and I spend my day ice mining or sitting in an asteroid field. Then, when real life gets in the way (I play maybe 1 to 3 hours a day), I dock and log off.

ISK is an end unto itself rather than a means to an end which is the primary reason that as a player my motivation to invest time and money into the game has been low from the get-go. In other MMOs that I have played and just other games in general, I wanted to earn gold/credits or whatever because of what that could buy me towards a goal of system defined progression through levels, skills, gear, etc. This is the first one I've played that just sort of puts it out there as the only goal to speak of which defeats the purpose of a game and makes it seem a little too much like work.

isk/hr is usually theoritcal as well . let say Wormhole Ratting, you have to scan a wormhole, you have to roll them if thei are bad, you have to roll the wormholes inside a good wormhole and then you can start ratting. player usually measure the time when they warp in and warp out but the preparation time for it is not considered. same goes for Gas Huffing, Ice Mining and so on. its not like you have 1 hour spare time and you dock out of station and beginn with the activity. i think there are only few things which can be measured, mining ores, null sec ratting and abyssal.

@@VitalijMik I got into an argument with a corp mate about this, he was saying new players can earn lots of isk easily as explo is 100m/hr, I've spent months living in wormholes doing explo and it absolutely isn't 100m/hr or close to that, but you can get lucky sometimes

@@MemeNiceMan yeah you can play like for 4 hours, have a container scanner eqipped skip all data, gas sites jump into relic sites only and skip everyting below 1m value. you also need to be within a wormhole at start not a high/low sec. but it is not sustainable its just theoretical. if you count in superior sites then it is even 1B/h (if you find high grade omega pb) :D

I wish EO had something similar to EEs anomaly system. It made it so easy as a basic ratter to make a decent amount of isk without to much hassle and it was great for drop in drop out play. The closest things in EO i know of are either FW sites or Incursions which are more long term time investments. I get though that it would probably break EO if something like that was added to the game.

I just do not really know as a new player how to establish myself. Imo the isk/hr metric isnt end all to be all but provides some guidance for me on how to get the starting capital to do things in eve. I don't have the assets to do much right now ingame so something like looking at abyssal rates helps me even get into a ship im skilling towards.
@ickebins69484 ай бұрын
Thanks for you sharing you views! New players have no clue of what is out there or how to make decent isk. It's not about plexing your account but making some isk for new ships and playstyles. But isk/h is an easy way to see what you could do. It's the first incentive to try something different... nothing more. I've been playing since 2009 and only this year started with Abyssals... It's fun and a new challenge that's the most important part, the fact that you can make good money is a great bonus.

99% of the time you're better off worrying about Fun per Hour. ISK comes naturally doing almost any activity and a lot of activities pay decently well if you know what you're doing. I made a new account just last week and was shocked how easy it was to hit his first 50mil compared to the old days.

isk/hr ends up being another symptom of people min/maxing the game generally. the way people approach the game, it's not even worth playing unless you have trained level 3/4 in X skill. (I saw this advice being given out today in a trade hub regarding whether it was worth doing exploration.) More than the complexity of EVE, people having this min/max attitude drives people away. If you're not using the current optimized fit for a given activity, then you're treated like an idiot. people really love explaining why they are right about doing an activity a certain way with a certain ship and then overexplaining to you why you need to do things their way
@R0bstar-YT4 ай бұрын
I don't think the game is about ISK/hr. I think people believe that because they don't have any long term goals in the game. Amassing ISK is a new player trap because they don't really know what to spend their ISK on. The key is to find activities that you enjoy that will in turn net you ISK to support those activities. Most veterans have multiple income streams that usually stem from a high upfront investment of ISK and SP, but aren't necessarily grindy in nature but still have a high return. To achieve this (if that's what you want) you have to see the bigger picture and think in the long term.

I think isk/hr is for newer players who don't have the SP, ships or general resources to do the things they actually want to do, so they focus on isk/hr because they want to earn enough to fly ships or do activities that are actually enjoyable without pandering to the predatory mobile games monetisation the game uses
