@ericmann17812 жыл бұрын
Yours seems like a good one, there's an "Industrial engineering: Operations Optimization" course I found in a specific college in continuing education programs and there is no cal, but that's up here in Quebec. Not sure how many other places have these seemingly non intensive "Industrial engineering" specialty programs with limited math, but at the end of this program that I found, you don't meet the qualifications to be an actual engineer and are thus not recognized as one. I wonder if it's in part because of programs like this.

Do you think industrial engineering is the more social option of engineering types? I feel like because it deals more with business, your career will involve having to work with other people almost always, whereas (I assume) electrical or mechanical, etc. is more focused on the building. So building by yourself, occasionally speaking with your team but you’re mainly by yourself. I love what industrial engineering is all about but hate having to do business talk with others all the time. I’d rather be told what to do and then just go and do it. Are my assumptions correct?

I'm a community college student who is applying to transfer next fall for mechanical and industrial engineering to the UC's. I'm applying for mechanical engineering to the schools that don't have industrial engineering and the one school that has a really good industrial engineering program is UC Berkeley. I don't know if I should write about my desire for both majors in my essays or just focus on one. Cause I would love to go to UCB for their program, but my chances are slim even though I am a 4.0 student. I was wondering if there is any way for mechanical engineers to get the same job oppurtunities as industrial engineers? Mechanical engineers can certainly work as IEs. ESP if you take electives and intern with IE focused things. Write your essays to be applicable to each major. If you’re applying as ME, write a version of your essay just for that. Same with IE so you have two different essays

@thirdeyes5617 oh, lol. I was joking around when I made this comment. None is better than the other. It genuinely just depends on where your interests lie. I personally chose industrial engineering because it is the perfect blend between business and engineering. I have always been more interested in the operational side of things, and this is a major focus within the field of industrial engineering. We use various tools such as operations research, statistics, quality control, operations/supply chain management, data analytics, and much more to make better business decisions for the company as a whole. I wouldn't do electrical engineering or mechanical engineering simply because that's not what I'm interested in. But that doesn't make it a "worse" degree to study. Again, it's simply a matter of what you are interested in.

@@thirdeyes5617 The various skills such as systems thinking, process optimization, quality control, supply chain management, and data analysis that the field covers are highly transferable and in demand, however, your level of employability is based on how well you can demonstrate and apply these skills in real-world situations. To increase your chances of employability, I would suggest doing Internships or Co-ops during your studies. Another consideration would be networking during your studies, such as joining professional organizations like the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). These organizations provide networking opportunities, access to job boards, and professional development resources. You might also want to consider getting a master's degree. Hope this helps :)

You can get hired as a project manager when you have some experience in a project where they are for example developing a new engine. This is because you as an IE understand the bigger picture, both the technical side and the business side. Hi I'm thinking of Taking Aeronautical Engineering and I recently decided to change course to IE due to the pandemic. Do you think I'm making the right choice?

Heyyyy thanks for the comment. AeroE and IE are both great career options. I ranked them both high in this video lately, “Best Engineering Majors | Engineering Degree Tier List” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJfEqnuMf9F-nbM They are very opposite engineering options though, in terms of what the actual work will be like and the theory of either approach. First lets talk IE. Industrial Engineering is a great field and it’s very different from most other engineering fields. It considers the opposite approach. Mechanical or electrical or civil engineering, and all the rest, will look at each individual part or component and optimize them one at a time in order to maximize the sum of the parts (or whatever the objective is, which may include reduce costs, reduce build-time, etc). . Industrial engineering considered the entire system wide perspective, so it looks at the full top down umbrella view. Therefore, it considers more things like human factors, and the perspectives of people working a system (ex: manufacturing), along with other things that are not raw engineering elements. Due to this difference, there is less math. Another thing that I like about IE is that it is far more diverse, having 40% women vs the standard 13% across the board. Re-watch this video above to rediscover some of this, if it helps. Link below. . “What Do Industrial Engineers Do?” kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpqodGmllN2fl9k . AE on the other hand is about an raw of an engineering field as it comes. Heavy physics. Thermodynamics. Design. Lots of parts, etc. They way to know which one is for you is if you are very good at physics and calculus, it would be silly to become an IE. AEs make way more money and from an engineering perspective, do pretty cool things, as you can see in this video. I have done some good content on AE if you want to learn more, “What is Aerospace Engineering? What do Aerospace Engineers Do?” kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHXEYZl4a9CrjMU “Aerospace Engineer Interview | How To Get A Job At Boeing | How To Get A Job At Lockheed Martin” kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKazcpyXpNN_qLM “What is Combustion Engineering? | Can Mechanical Engineers Become Aerospace Engineers?” kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5-7oaagj8ikZs0 I hope these help.
