Jakob's family also probably played a role in him becoming so good too. His older brothers are all successful high-level runners too, and his dad is their coach. So maybe young Jakob had to work extra hard to keep up with his older siblings, and it paid off.
@mortenbergheim920
@mortenbergheim920 Жыл бұрын
His dad is no longer their coach after they had a falling out. From documentaries following the family the atmosphere was always intense and from an outsiders perspective I think it became hard to function both as coach/athlete and family. Interestingly enough the dad is still training Narve Nordås who took bronze in the 1500m and the relationship between Jakob and Narve is frosty to say the least after Narve didn't get accreditation for his coach which many believe was to shield Jakob. It is impressive that Jakob is doing all this without a "real" coach. They have a team and the eldest brother handles some of the practical stuff, but basically they've said they know what to do and don't need a coach. And you are very correct in saying the family helped and they've admitted that the two elder brothers were like guinea pigs and by the time Jakob was ready to start fully they had the recipe down, which is evident from his lack of major injuries comperatively to his brothers.

If you believe the wave lights over the on-screen clock (and you should), 1 green light on past the finish line means 57 1/7 seconds since the pace asked for was 57.00 and wave lights are 1 meter apart, and 400/57 is 7.01m/s. Given this, I would put the split at 57.2, since the green light 1m past the finish line was on in the previous frame, too.

Komen's 3000 meters, at 7:20 is ofc legendary and noone has been (officially) close to it. Only Jakob already has been 2-4 seconds away from it, making him the 2nd fastest ever at 3k - And Jakob had another 200m at 30 sec in the tank. Jakob ran onwards from 3k to the 2 miles when he sat that record, but passed 3k in 7:23-7:24 isch, IIRC. He could have taken the 200m sprint energy from the 2mile WR and used earlier to hack off 2+ seconds at least to smackdaddy that 7:20 if he had wanted to, or in another race.

Jakobs eldest brother who started and made their training plans, have told that Jakobs training have made him better as longer the racing distances are. At Jakobs first interview after the 1500 in WC he said that today he wasn't the best. As usual he got a cross examination from a lot of interviewers, and then he had to tell about his fever and that he didn't feel well. I could see that he didn't have his usual sting both in 1500 final, the Q for 5k and in the 5k final. He was interviewed before the WRA on 2k and then he said that the fever and small ilness subsided shortly after the WC, but that the muscles were contracting and that this had to be released before the WR attempt at 2k. He has been his own trainer for years now and know his body quite well, and therefore he didn't push his training any futher when he after his illness noticed that the muscles started tighten earlier than normal but he thought that most of this had released. You could see that this WR run was quite good, but you could also see after he had finished the world record race that he wasn't sure of this as a max run. Of course it was bad luck for a man like Jakob to get an illness during WC. His worst day was in the 1500 m final. Jakob usually have got sick once during the summer every season, but this obviously was the worst possible time. I actually feel a little sick waching all telling why others no had grown better than Jakob. Dear friends its not so simple suddenly grow better than him, it was easy to see in all the races from the 1500 m final to the 5k final he won, that his body wasn't working normally. He just won the 5k because of a really smart raceplan that he followed so good that he managed to win on a 99 % day, and a runner like him is obviously not happy with that.

1500, and 10,000 will be the most difficult. His 2 mile showed us that he can break the 3000 right now. This 2000 showed us under the right circumstances, he can break the mile right now. If he runs a race with pacers and lights on the track he can break the 5k right now. I don’t think he can break the 5k or mile by much right now but he can break them. I think he can smash the 3000.

His strength is amazing. What interests me is I have long predicted the 5000 meters going 12:29 with the right combo of speed and strength. I have not found that runner until watching Jakob. He likes the 1500 and has the speed, but it is the 5000 I think where is will inevitably have his best performance. He’s too big you say, a 1500 meter guy, perhaps not efficient enough. Well to go that fast a runner needs the right engine and he has it. I calculated a guy 6’, which for the 10k I calculate a guy 5’6 or 7. A power stride like Bekele, check. A chest large enough to house a set of lungs and a big heart, check. And a stride similar in length to Daniel Komen, check. A guy like kiplimo is perfect for 10k and marathon. But he has to work really hard at 4:02 per mile and is really working at 60.5. So much so that he is working 2 percent harder at 4:01 pace. He is lighter, but his turn over is not giving him the optimal investment of energy. Now Jakob would be able to carry 0:05 that same effort at 3:59.8 per mile even with the added size and weight. He would have to run the first half of the race 1 second faster than the second half which sounds counterintuitive but the physics have a reason for this. At 10000 meters all the advantages at a world record go out the window however and put Kiplimo ahead (just a sample runner I happen to think is very talented). So using physics and to give or take by 2 seconds and then calculating the averages Jacob should be able to break 12:30 on the right day provided he has pacesetters through the halfway point and tucks in to block some of his added wind resistance. Next to Jakob my calculation had Komen at 12:32 and Bekele at 12:34. Interestingly the actual WR holder currently I had at 12:38. He far exceeded the calculation for one reason or another.

We shouldn't mix 1600 American high school mile within actual 1mile as he covered his first lap 57flat and the true 1mile starting line slightly earlier as 55,7 therefore his last true closing mile sets to 3:47,4ish. Question about the points it's clear Lekuta Rudisha has greatest record of all, no matter which type of mondo or super spikes.. ..we will see the wave lights running away as sub101second is remarkable.

A more interesting question would be whether Jakob breaks 1,500m or 5,000m record first. I think probably 5,000m first since he said in a post-match interview that a great result in 5,000m is actually within expectation due to what his training gives him. But one minor concern ahead of him would be how he manage to dictate every single race, and not playing in others hand, or he may have to find a way to lead every race and make sure every time the pace is fast enough to eliminates a chaotic finish, even though he still has the greatest kick on 400m among all the middle distance athletes.

It shows the fine margins in athletics. Jakob is something else but still lost out in the last two 1500m world champs. I hope he ends up with the titles, records and medals his obvious talent and dedication deserve. It also shows how extraordinary Usain Bolt was. Aside from his DQ in 2011 - to never have an off day or bad race and execute time after time to 3peat the sprint double at the Olympics is just insane.

I would also waiting for the world records at 1500 and 1 mile, but this is records from a really hih level athlet in the black period of track and field history, and I would like him to take 3 k, 5 k and 10 k before he are unlucky with being injured or sick of the circus. He is a big long distance talent, and people are talking about running faster i WC to take down Jakob at 5k, the other runners know this and know that their best chances in long distance isnt to try that hard and loose all medal chances. His trainer and eldest brother Henrik have said he is best at 10 k or half marathon, but he love 1500 m most. And of course p.b. at 3.27.14 is not bad, and he was on his lifetime best shape at a crazy high level on his way into WC, and he didn't tell that he was sick before the interview with Norwegian tv where he just told that he was not the best, but after some questions he had to tell a little more, and the doctor at the national team told zome more after a while. People watched him before WC thought he could have been on a 3.26 level in a perfect world record race, of course not a WC race, but with the pull he have had for the last 120m this season it may had been diffycult to follow in that shape, but not to be sick is a part of the game as he also told Norwegians. But most of us would have loved to see his kick on both 1500 and 5 k in that shape, l'm a bit sad for that. But I'm waiting more for some fun on 5 k, on 10 k, or half marathon, because I'm so slow😊.

I'm thinking his career on the track will be pretty similar to El Guerrouj's, except instead of his 3rd Olympics (like El Guerrouj), he will finally pull off the 1500m and 5k double in a world champs on his 3rd attempt (2025 is my guess, though he may also pull this off in Paris next year). He will also likely break El Guerrouj's 1500m and mile records at some point, but not sure exactly when. I think unlike El Guerrouj though, he will continue his career off the track for a while, though I'm not 100% sure yet how he'll do there. I'm sure very well, but we'll see about winning, records, etc.
