You only need to seal the lid if you have a radon system installed in the pit as well. Sealing the lid is not going to keep radon out. Radon seeps through the ground and concrete into basements.

The ground, the sump needs to be sealed due to radon gasses in the ground that leak into living area. The radon system pulls the gas out of the ground and out above living area(usually roof). The areas where this is needed doesn’t have any issues of creating a vacuum effect if that is your concern as there is a perimeter drainage system that can pull air around the basement slab so any air that works throughout the ground will make its way in. Ground is porous is how I’d explain it. Not dry compacted.
@webcompanion2 жыл бұрын
@@thomassosa2957 you can test for radon with a cheap kit. If you have it, it's better to get a fan that runs outside the house and evacuates the air from that area in my opinion. That's what people do in Michigan. I have no radon positive test so I don't seal or use the evac system.
@thomassosa29572 жыл бұрын
Some sump lids come with the weatherseal foam role. Placed in the front of the screw holes and it helps keep air tight. There are also plugs that have holes for fit each pipe size that screw into lids. As someone who services them, I appreciate when they aren’t caulked but understand why it’s done. Nevertheless I prefer the described setup for the lid

Your pump may become air locked. I do not see a vent. I only see the discharge tube. If you’re going to seal a pump into a basin you must have a dedicated 2” vent line. Your discharge and inlet are the standard openings in a basin but if sealing you must also have a vent line and usually a smaller opening for cables & rope to pull up the pump and also a small opening for the power and float cables.
@RanceCarmona Жыл бұрын
Sealing it won't create an air lock. Most pumps have a breather hole. If the pump doesn't, just drill a small hole in the pvc below the check valve

Radon is a joke. But i have to seal mine because if i dont then the basement smells like mildew from the standing water in the well.. everything will rust around it and gets humid in the summer.. if i seal it than it fixes that issue.. when i moved in 15 years ago a radon test was done, not requested by myself, but apparently it came back as “the worst ive seen in 15 years of testing”. And i laughed at him and told em to get on.. 15 years later, no cancer, no lung issues, no death. Had a dog the entire time and shes 17 now and my cat lived up until i had to put her down because she was pushing 20 and had mobility issues and couldnt get in the box to shit.. but never effected them. I think people are ignorant on the stuff and a little actual research will show that all the hype is coming from the companies and cdc, who are controlled and not there for the people, theyre there for big pharma and agencies over the public.. and i don’t consider myself any conspiracist or flat earther nonsense.. the stuff is only harmful when it decomposes into one of 7 hydrocarbons that are considered health hazardous but those 7 are of the 31 others that are not hatmful, but those 7 are only in that harmful state for so little of a time period it would be luck if you happened to ingest that and consume it while it was in that state before it decomposes again due to their half lives .. radon is everywhere and it is impossible to truly say with certainty that it is indeed deadly because its impossible to create an atmosphere that is completely void of it to test otherwise.. they originally tested it on a town completely filled with miners.. they said every death that happened was from radon because they believed it was more prominent in caves and mines which white lung, black lung, pneumonia, etc were the causes of dearh which couldnt be proven otherwise that radon didnt have any effect on those diseases. Just like covid, all flu cases were docd as covid to hike the numbers.. all a bunch of nonsense..

You definitely do not need to seal a sump pump pit. Also you are potentially destroying the sump pump with the caulk that fell through that hole. Next time use a sump pump lid rubber gasket. I am fan of starting your own business, but one thing you should not do is learn on people’s money. If your not sure , take the time and study. I know you only mean good but you could be potentially doing more damage.
