@I_WANT_MY_SLAW7 жыл бұрын
It's very disrespectful. This is an unfortunate reality that black actors have to deal with when they achieve success in thier craft. It's a microagression that people use to undermine black actors, and not give them the respect they deserve. They aren't even trying to be racist. Well most people are, but Rosie isn't. As I know for a fact that Rosie doesn't have a racist bone in her body. She doesn't even realize she's doing it, and she means no harm. But by only calling him by his sitcom character, and not respectfully referring to him by his real name, it undermines him as a black actor, and the black excellence he is. She's not doing it on purpose. It's just been embedded in the culture that black actors don't deserve the same level of respect that white actors get, and she's doing it subconsciously. Will Smith was able to avoid this, because he played Will Smith on the Fresh Prince. Same with Kenan and Kel. But unfortunately the same isn't true for Jaleel White. Who is true black excellence.
@HisOnly177 жыл бұрын
I see exactly what you mean and you are correct. However, when referring to a person playing a character in a professional setting (television show in this case) the polite and professional thing to do would be to refer to him as his real name.

He mentions in an interview on the dvd set that he didn't want Sonic to sound "black, white, or 'surfer', just hero". @@disneytoysr4fun975 Exactly . Most 20 year olds are not that well spoken.
@kellyspence19724 жыл бұрын
@@chazlenz1 Yes, there are lots of 20 year olds packed in colleges across the country who speak "well." White stated he attends UCLA. Even if he did not attend college, one does not have to attend a university to know how to speak the English language well. So, being well-spoken is not a compliment. Articulate and "well spoken" are offensive terms when used to describe a black person's speech, a term rarely used for Whites, young or old. Get it?
@kellyspence19724 жыл бұрын
@@disneytoysr4fun975 It's called racial ignorance. Your response makes no sense because he's "well-spoken" in all his roles. Ever heard Urkel talk? He's a nerd, so your argument doesn't hold up. "Articulate" has always been a highly offensive term for a black person who doesn't speak "ghetto" or with ebonics. It's not rocket science to grasp this truth.
@disneytoysr4fun9754 жыл бұрын
@@kellyspence1972 Plenty of people speak with a standard english dialect and don't sound articulate. Being articulate and well spoken have nothing to do with accents or slang. I'm sure she would have said the same thing about Tupac who also was able to express himself and his thoughts clearly even while using ebonics. Meanwhile nobody would say that T.I. is articulate just because he can use difficult words. And nobody would say Justin Beiber is articulate even tho he has a White Canadian dialect.
