Hi Sandra, aren’t they just, our granny’s new how to feed their families well. And thank you, it’s very kind of you to say so. I believe that’s one of my future tips, add cream and vanilla extract, and it takes it up a notch. Water burst all sorted after a lot of hard work, but it’s all ok,now. Fabulous video again Lynn. You explain and demonstrate baking so well. Everything is very clear and easy to follow. Your jam roly poly looked delicious. Y’know I’ve never made a jam roly poly or dumplings. I think it’s because of the suet, but it looks easy enough to add. I might try making it. Thanks. I use the Bird’s custard powder but also I use custard in cans or cartons. A bit more expensive but so easy. Thanks for all the variety. Very enjoyable watching xx

I think vegetable shortening is just like lard (hard vegetable fat) but I could be wrong. Perhaps google for us equivalent.

Oh nooooo you've done it again i am drooling looking at the roly poly with the custard. Enjoy. My tip is with egg shells ( only cooked ones though ) grind them down and you can either feed them to your dog or put them on your plants. Never ever use raw ones for the dog.

Looks so yummy my Mam used to make all those puddings for me for when I finished night school I’d come home to a lovely hot pud with custard. I don’t remember having anything other than Birds custard as a child growing up in the 50-60s to me that’s proper custard. I often use ready prepared custard these days. Btw how many ovens do you have? 😊

Aw you lucky girl Sandra, having puddings every night, we just had them as a treat, except when we went to grandmas house. I don’t remember anyone making their own custard, it was always birds. I have one split oven, big at the bottom, and small at the top, then over that is the microwave, then I have my hob, that’s it, does it look more on the video lol ❤️

Hi Lynn, love jam roly poly it brings back so many good memories. My mother always steamed hers. No matter how you do it, it's wonderful with custard. I saw a chef on TV making a cheats custard, using birds and then adding cream and vanilla extract, said it tasted like home made custard! What do you think. Glad you tested before giving to your family, you have to 😂😂

Lynn that looks yummy haven't had one for years. two questions if you don't mind first how do you keep your headband on i had one and it will not stay on keeps slipping off the back? and did you get your flour container from Temu?

Hi Julie, we’ll as far as the headbands go, they just stay put, so I’m not sure why yours don’t. Have you tried a clip ? The flour container came from B&M bargains, quite a while ago, but I think they still have them. ❤️❤️❤️

I think the baker is always entitled to be the first test taster. You don't want to give bad tasting food to your family or guests. LOL. It looked delicious. I love baking, more than cooking. Great video Lynn. I would love to try this for Christmas. How did your son enjoy it? Happy birthday to him. My hubby always wants German chocolate cake for his birthday, it's his favorite and it's the only time of year that I make it. So it's always special. Hope the water issue gets sorted out real soon. Hi Ballerina, exactly my thoughts too lol 😂. I’m the same, I could bake all day and never get bored. My son loved it, I shared it out with him, his partner, my father in law, my daughter and hubby of course. I’d be the size of a house if I didn’t haha x it was my hubbys birthday, not my sons. I’m going to Google that (German chocolate cake ) I’ve never heard of it, but it sounds delicious. Yes the burst is fixed so onwards and upwards as they say. You too lovely 🥰❤️❤️

Hiya Lynn, your jam roly poly looks scrumptious, but I don't like suet in anything, suet puds savoury and sweet, and I don't like dumplings....I make dumplings with stew for everyone else but not for me. Anyways lovely lady tfs ❤x

I think you can buy vegetarian version of suet not sure what it’s made from but my friend who is vegetarian uses it for dumplings.

Lynn my Mam used to make spotted dick or jam sponge pud with custard. Delicious. She was a fantastic cook. Unfortunately I didn’t inherit her talents. Two of my sisters did One was less talented but I’m a hopeless case. I prefer gardening decorating and things like that Maybe I should have been a bloke 😂😂😂😂😂
