I always think of "Coming to America" when I see Jamaica Estates 😁🤴🏿

True. I always thought about the rapper DMX( Tommy Bunz) from the movie "Belly" lived in Jamaica Estates too.

This was lovely. I was born there at 175-10 88th Avenue in 1959. At the time it was Memorial Hospital of Queens. Thank you!

This was a nice trip down memory lane for me, having grown up on 180th Street between 90th and Jamaica avenue in the 1960s until 1975, when we fled the rising violent crime rate. I went to Immaculate Conception School in the Estates on Midland Parkway which you drove by. We were poor compared to the residents of Jamaica Estates. Walking to school in this incredibly wealthy neighborhood was quite a shock to my friends and me. We jokingly referred to our block as "Jamaica Estates South" to soften the blow lol. Nice video tour!

It seems as if all the NY developers took their building inspiration from England, lots of Tudor style houses, plus street layout...😊🏡

Has changed a lot with neighbors not keeping in keeping with the neighborhood and building crazy bright silver and gold fences and ridiculous walls as fences. It takes away from the park like feel it was modeled after, namely Central Park

By the way, Far Rockaway, Arverne, and Rockaway Beach are not wealthy, but Rockaway Park/Belle Harbor is extremely wealthy; Far Rockaway dates back before the 1600’s, when Henry Hudson came. We’re named after the Far Rickawayite Indians (who were also a part of the Lenai Lapi Indian tribe)
