Always some wickedly delicious food at a Nine Night! I went to a Nine Night in Santa Cruz; my God what an experience! When I woke up at the yard the men were always killing the goat 🐐 and prepping the giant pot of Manish Water. Band start set up Sound system string up and even a bartender showed up with his who counter and cases of liquor etc. RIP Manzie ❤️🇯🇲

This is spooky as today would have been a nine night in my family, but since we're abroad no one is really following tradition 🥲.

Question-why?
@justlarry894527 күн бұрын
@@andreasmith3587 Many thanks for your question. Nine Nights is a celebration of the deceased's life, but it is not a festivity, so rice and peas are avoided because they’re seen as too festive for the occasion. We also hold a belief that if cooked for Nine Nights, the dish will spoil quickly, due to the presence of the deceased’s spirit, which makes celebratory foods like rice and peas inappropriate. Instead, we prepare simpler foods to maintain the respect and dignity of the event. Again, it is a celebration, but not a festivity.
