Souflo I’m not Jamaican I’m Dominican (not Dominican Republic) but from the Island of Dominica situated between Martinique and Guadeloupe I’ve followed your channel for quite some time and enjoy your content and this is one of my favorites , I love Jamaican food , I love Haitian food , Trinidad , Barbados , I could go on and on , but one of the things you said that resinated with me is you pushing for us as a people to go out there and enjoy “ our “different islands. Experience the difference in cultures , connect with the similarities and differences of beliefs be one Caribbean people no matter what Island you were born to, because no matter where I travel, apart for looking for comfort within black people it always hits different when you find somebody from the Caribbean you can link with . Keep doing your thing bro. More success to you and your family.

We love Jamaican, at the end of the day we all the same people ❤️ Majority of our food is base off our African roots. The pickles is a spicy sauce you dip the griot in and the legume with the rice. Legume is cabbage, carrots, eggplant and other veggies and you can add meat if you choose to, a lot of plants base eaters eat that dish. Next try our soups and fried turkey. We all one people and everyone in the Caribbean are culture is alike. One Love ❤️

@dianasimeon1386 Жыл бұрын
@@ninpo23tj this is the effect of slavery that divide us. Imagine if we are unite, we can do great thing similar to the Spanish people but we don't. I will never forget the bad experience I had with two black American women in Miami, I was 17 years old at that time, me and my sister went to the three sisters clothing store in the 79 street Biscayne Miami, while we were inside the store the two black American women came right behind us and saying racial slurs about Haitians, one of the even said she wanted to kill Haitians, I told my sisters let's get out of the store, this was back in the 1990 's. we left the store, at that time they were no cell phone available and we were not aware on the proper procedure to deal with that, I am glad you acknowledge the issue. This is a huge problem for us , we are not unite, the other races are unite and this why we are the minority. I listen to Dr Omar , he spoke about this topic before and stated that all black folks are brothers and sisters no matter where you from.

Hi ❤️ Legume is a mixture of mashed veggies like eggplant , chayotte squash, green cabbage, spinach, and carrots usually mixed with some time of protein and seasoning. Beef or oxtail is the best in my opinion. It's tastes different depending on who makes it. Most Haitians do use coconut milk in their rice. I think our food is very similar to Jamaican food which I love . As a Haitian myself I would say the best/ most authentic Haitian restaurants are in Miami Florida. Next time try the Legume with white rice and red bean sauce or fried red snapper with fried plantains or Oxtail with any rice. Black rice is my favorite and also try Haitian Mac and cheese and potatoe salad with beets.

Glad you enjoyed our food 🇭🇹 As you may know, food sometimes varies from region to region. For example, in the north of Haiti, we are known for rice and legumes, and the south is known for seafood because the habitants live closer to the coast/ocean. You'll find that southern Haitians add coconut to their rice more than northerners, but we still do it too. It just depends on the day and our mood. Sidebar, please try du ris djon djon or Haitian Black Rice. People usually enjoy it too. Bon appetit! 🇭🇹 x 🇯🇲

Hey guys! -Legum is a mix of boiled veggies (Choo Choo, cabbage, carrots, onions, garlic, eggplant...some people may add other vegetables.) Then its mashed and seasoned. The meat is cooked seperately. Then you add it to the mashed veggies. Im not going into the details , but thats mainly how we do légum. -Our plantain is made from green plantain. Hence the un-sweetness lol. Dominicans and Cubans do it the same way -Our gravies are mostly tomatoe based. We dont cook with browning , curry, molasse (english colonies heritage) -Oh! We do use coconut milk in our rice but not as often

Legume is meant to be best eaten with white rice and black bean sauce legume has (cabbage, carrots, cayote, watercress, and eggplant all steamed and mashed and cooked with a seasoned meat) The plantains are only good when fresh out of the oil it's crispy Some rice and peas do come with coconut milk but some restaurants don't cook with it. But it's common Try fried goat (Tassot fritay) you would love it it comes with other fried assortments and also we have papaya juice smoothie and soursop smoothie if you can find someone who makes those and lastly try our pumpkin soup, black rice with fried gray when you get the chance

The légume is typically served with white rice and red/black bean sauce (not rice and peas). It's so much better home cooked (restaurant légume is a hit and miss. I've had some bad légume in take-out spots, to be honest, depends on the cook) You can also put some pikliz on top of the green fried plantain (try it! It takes it up a notch), on top of griot, mix it in your rice and peas (for a minute, I was scared that he was gonna eat it like coleslaw which is a common mistake, but he did good!) You can put pikliz on anything really to give your food a bit of a kick if you like a little spice. It's a condiment. Haitians like both green and ripe fried plantain (it depends on individual tastes) but take-out restaurants always serve it green.

Food and music are 2 singlehanded events that unit us as caribbean people. We have more similarities than differences. I love Haitian food. Had them all. Love Griot, black rice, legume` and Sauce Poix. Homemade Haitian food is far better tasting than those cooked in the restaurants in my opinion. Bottom line, Caribbean countries all share similar food cultures that were inherited from our African ancestors. We are 1 people under God. 🇯🇲 🇭🇹 🇭🇹🇯🇲

Not only African, for Haiti, & probably in my humble opinion, why the dishes are so excellent & succulent 😋 is that, it's mostly a mix of no 1 African (you're right 🧔🏾‍♂️👉🏾), no 2 French (France 🇫🇷 🗼#1 cuisine worldwide) ), no 3 Hispanic,, no 4 Haiti's 1st nations (aboriginals) & then Arabic & Chinese influences! Enjoy fully! 🤗 ❤️ 🎉 🏆

I'm glad you took the initiative to do this. It should quell the brewing dispute. I don't think the younger generation knows the historical bond that Haiti and Jamaica has. A Jamaican named Bookman helped in the Haitian revolution . Young people go and read Caribbean history.

Love the unity,I tried. Haitian food three times in my life,good and delicious ,this whole Tic Tok situation, needs to stop everytime us Black's make a step forward ,somebody or a organization try and throw a monkey wrench in the movement. The Pandemic has taught people that life is too short to be at war over nonsense, people are dropping everyday,dying in their sleep,gunshots,accidents, etc.we use to say God Bless to see another day,it's not like that anymore,cause you could be gone in the next hour ,so live by the minutes sometimes,,Blessings

Great video! I'm Grenadian, never had Haitian food because of no restaurants close by. Literally just saw one advertised that opened about a month ago in my area and planned on checking them out this weekend. They were advertising a pasta dish & their red snapper as popular dishes.

Jamaican rice n peas has coconut milk can be eaten without meat theirs lots of oil difference. Pork is dry unlike moist jerk but ok. Plantain is good and their portion is worth it. Awesome job SoFlo!

Griot is not an every day food because it's fried. Fried pork cubes are not going to be moist, lol. But if well made, it shouldn't be excessively dry either. Should be crispy on the outside but not hard on the inside (eaten with some pikliz sprinkled on top). Not all restaurants are created equal. Haitian rice can definitely go down easy without meat.
