Girl you hit all the points on the head. I'm also from the caribbean, Dominica. And I've been living here for 3 years plus. And I hate it here. If I stay here any longer I'll go crazy. All the best to you though. No disrespect but Belgium is not for Caribbean people.

Belgium has the highest income tax in Europe. You're right, that's where the wonderful amenities come from. Remember to say morning when in Jamaica. 👍

Why did you move here, just curious?

I realize that that street cordiality is not something that really exists outside of Jamaica. I had to learn really quickly that people don't say good morning, good afternoon, etc when they pass you in the street. I had to adapt what I call the "fake smile" in the US.

Thats what I realise yes. So yeah I had to adapt to the "fake smile" too

Hi my fellow Jamaican sista. Nice video though i sounds alittle sad . I am living here in Anwerp since 1977 . If you like you can get in touch . I think my kids are your age . They can submerge you into the Belgium culture if you like .
@UniqueNeish4 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you. No am not sad😆 I just have to get use to it here, its actually nice here, it's just that I am learning to adjust that's all.😊 And wow you live here pretty long that's interesting.
@howardmckenzie28064 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it's not too bad . yes I came over as a child and grew up in the school system over here . I am pretty happy living here , but it's also as you said in your video. I have adopted to the customs over here . Sometimes even without realizing it. I even think that after all these years I am more used to the Belgians than to the Jamaicans . Which is a minus of course but ones needs a community to keep his identity .

You and Belgium are just on different wavelengths. Belgium only exists since 1830, but the history of this region is waaaaay older. This region has always been a center of culture, trade, inventions, wars, arts, architecture, languages, singers, painters, chefs, monks, chieftains, rulers, castles, kings and queens, and many many wars and struggles... From 1945 till now is the first 85 years ever since the early Middle Ages that we went without a war. It's the crossroad of northwestern Europe. It's all there right in front of your nose to discover. And yes, the nature of the real original people from here is a bit reserved, but not impolite (of course there are going to be some rude people everywhere in the world, always). There are historical reasons for this suspicious attitude. But once you break through that wall, you made friends for life. Maybe you just have no interest in these aspects of a culture. Maybe you're interested in other things. And then, in your case, life in Belgium may be boring to you. Doesn't mean Belgium is boring.
@UniqueNeish4 жыл бұрын
Wow so much. Thanks for the info. I haven't live here long enough I still have many more to discover and learn to addapt.
@giloises4 жыл бұрын
@@UniqueNeish That's the spirit. I perfectly understand it's a completely different world for someone who comes from sunny Jamaica. It's hard to make contact with the locals here. I know. It's true. Even for me as a Belgian, believe me. I guess the best thing to do here is to subscribe to an activity or a course of something that you really enjoy doing (cooking, dancing, painting, beer tasting 😁, long distance cycling, whatever.... )Then you will automatically make new friends without it being forced and awkward. And no better way to use your first steps in Dutch or French and to explore the culture and the country, because yes, there is a lot to discover. Salutes from Antwerp!

@@giloises I am getting there with the language it's not so bad for just being here for a year, I can understand more than I can speak. But yeah am working on it. Thanks for watching😊

@@UniqueNeish , it would be nice to understand the culture. Assimilation is key to survival in a new world. When you break the language barrier, people will see that you are interested in knowing the culture. Things will be a bit easier for you. I am from a caribbean island just like you some decades ago, I had tried hard to understand English while US is way bigger where multiculturalism is promoted to some extent. You will be fine and learning is also key to success as well.
@UniqueNeish4 жыл бұрын
I am integrating and getting use to the culture and all because I am open minded and since am gonna live here for the rest of my life I have no choice. By the way I can u understand and speak the language to an extent. So let's say I am surviving 😄
