Fried dumplings is a staple breakfast item in Jamaica and not everyone does it well, so I made my way over to the Bronx to see what the hype was. A month or so before I also tried Blue Cantina that a few people also mentioned and it definitely gave a little Jamaican box lunch kinda vibe.

Yes Bronx and mount vernon are side by side basically. My mom and granddad lives there, I used to ride to new Rochelle, Harlem and the Central Park. I used to love the imagery riding down white plains road and see the train over head. You should try going to the vegan place on 228 and white plains rd if it’s even there still.

The Dumpling Shop is a sub from its brother company The Dumpling Cove, which is about 3 minutes from each other. You get more for your money at The Dumpling Cove, but they're both good.

uh oh you close but no - dumpling shop is from east 222nd street and bronxwood ave since the 1990s maybe even the 1980s and they moved to the building on 222st bottom/by the highway but a business dispute made them take there original dumpling shop up the block by the train station , and leave the other business location and that became dumpling cove witch is a copy cat or "fake" dumpling shop they are not brother companies or partners ...

I think Blue Mountain Cuisine on Eastchester Road is better than The Dumpling Cove in my opinion. It’s ran by senior citizens and only open from Thu-Sat. Usually run out of dumplings by 6am if not earlier.

Is that name "Total"? Today is the first time I've heard of it. "Coconut Bake" is the equivalent in Trinbago but I never knew Jamaicans made 'cause I've never seen it anywhere in NYC. You're right that the best version is more dense and coconutty. These days people are adding more yeast to make it swell up like bread...but for the older heads Bake is NOT bread. Still, I would take bammi over bake any day!!🙂
