People need to understand the difference between general elections and local government elections when talking about roads and development. In a general election, we vote for a Member of Parliament (MP) to represent the constituency in Parliament. In Western Westmoreland, the MP is from the JLP. But, the MP does not directly control road repairs and community projects. Road maintenance falls under the municipal corporation, which is run by councillors elected in the local government elections. These councillors make decisions about local roads, drains, and other infrastructure. The problem is that in Western Westmoreland, the PNP controls the local government, meaning they manage the municipal corporation and make decisions about roadworks. However, this does not excuse the poor living conditions that we, the residents, including myself, continue to face. Issues like bad roads and poor housing conditions remain serious concerns. No matter who is in power, whether they get voted in or out, we need real representatives who actually care about us. They must speak up in Parliament and push for real solutions to fix these problems.
