Nice pieces! I enjoy watching your experiments. I have been fusing over 10 years and I always pick up an idea or bit of knowledge I can use. Thank you. (Loved your HL comment...So many people have become so comfortable with their own beliefs, feelings, etc., that they ultimately become the intolerant ones. You do you! ❤️)

I've done stamping with Versamark and mica. I've never sanded the glass, just gone straight on with the Versamark but if you try it, just be prepared for the stamp to slip if you press too hard. I dump a lot of mica on the impression and use an artist brush to clean it up. Once the mica is on, it should not smear. You can clean the stamp by dumping it in water. I believe Versamark is mainly glycerine. I did some research on mica before I bought some and found out that unless it is made for fused glass, the colour may not hold through a firing. I use the glass type, capped and uncapped and the colours have remained true. I've never tried the Colours for Earth but love the way your project turned out. May have to give that a go. I think it looks terrific and I'm envious of your collection of millefiori.

If your stamping medium is water cleanup, a sponge in a tray or a scrap of wet towel makes for easy clean up that gets into the grooves.

Hi there! First, I made test tiles so I knew how glass acted in my kiln. Those give me a target wen I’m deciding what to do. And I have done a ton of reading! Bullseye has a great tech note about firing and making test tiles. Try this: www.bullseyeglass.com/images/stories/bullseye/PDF/TechNotes/technote_4_2020.pdf and this one: www.bullseyeglass.com/images/stories/bullseye/PDF/TechNotes/technotes_1_202010.pdf

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your ideas! When you added the mat board to the frame, did you take out the glass that was included with the frame? If not, did you put the mat board on top of the glass or behind it? I couldn't tell from looking at it on the video. Thanks again!!

Great question: I glued the pieces to the glass and put that back in the frame, mat board behind glass, then frame backing/stand.

@@JamaisonSchuler A couple of stamping tips: Think about inking the stamp pad, place it down on your table face up and then push the glass onto the stamp (opposite way of how you did it). It's especially helpful with transparent glass as you can see exactly where you are positioning the stamp. Press evenly. I like cleaning stamps with stamp cleaner (available wherever you buy stamps). Stamp aligners are a great way to align up a previously stamped image. Can you fuse with embossing powder instead of the mica? I have tons of those from my previous craft life :-). If so, is it still 1400 for 15 mins? Do you do any cooling holds or just let it cool down to 0 from there?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler Жыл бұрын
@@susanhardy1443 I like the idea of pressing the glass onto the stamp! I’ve never used embossing powder, so I can’t speak to that specifically, but you should plan for a proper cooling ramp down regardless. The base glass still needs to anneal properly
@susanhardy1443
@susanhardy1443 Жыл бұрын
@@JamaisonSchuler I tested it and used both red and pink embossing powders. The pink came out white and the red disappeared completely, which is not what I expected. The red disappeared even when it was covered with clear glass. The pink (which came out white) can be rubbed off on the ones that were not covered with clear. I fired at 1400°F for 15 mins and opened the kiln at around 200°F. Do you use the same temp/time when firing with glassline enamels? I might paint over them to try and improve it.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler Жыл бұрын
@@susanhardy1443 I’ve never used glassline paints but I’ve used Colors for Earth enamels and I think I was in that 1400 range
