Beautiful! Thank you so much for all the little tips and tricks that you share. Allow me to share one of mine with you - regarding the hand cramping when you're using the small sifter. Instead of using the thumb to push the spiral wire along the threads, I just push the spiral back out of the way and run the edge of a spoon (or any metal object/tool) along those threads. This does require 2 hands though.

Is it possible to do a powder sky and pre-fire the base piece of glass. I want to contour white snow banks on the top layer and fuse these two pieces together. Then slump!
@FiredGlass Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can fire up to 7 times before glass gets problematic. Remember to increase the annealing time.

1:04 VERY nice work! Your videos make a pleasant winter night. Summer time I would be out pulling weeds out of our large vegetable garden and tending to my old English roses, lilies etc. etc. The English cottage garden look I have always loved, like a stage act, as crocuses fade, hyacinths appear, then tulips, these fade then the roses light up, the tall intensely fragrant oriental lilies shoot up through the rose bushes, dahlias. nasturtiums trailing about. I absolutely adore the English Cottage garden, the intensely fragrant roses, moss roses etc. are the stars of the show. 11:48 snow storm! 15:57 Yes, I was just ready to say "your poor thumb" as wearying to the hand as milking a cow! LOL! 22:36 good! Those birches on YOUR right that appeared to be floating above the snow now are joined to the snow! 23:21 VERY nice! how you did not limit yourself to a generic stencil, but customized the scene, really nice! 25:50 It all fused very nicely, the impression of a brightly lit winter night with midnight blue sky . very nice, thank you!

Thank you glad you enjoyed it. Oh yes the summer months. We have lots of David Austin roses in our garden, they grow very well in our clay soil. Traditional English Tea Roses and newer cultivated versions.
@rareandwonderfull3 жыл бұрын
@@FiredGlass Yes, David Austin roses are the best, I have The Poet's Wife, beautiful, clean cadmium yellow with definite grapefruit scent under the old rose fragrance, my other Austin rose is Crocus.

@@FiredGlass As I headed to bed last night after watching your splendid video, with the mind on winter, I was visualizing a fused glass of winter holly with red berries, maybe a cardinal bird? Your deer glass had such atmosphere, one could almost feel the cold winter air and midnight blue winter night sky looking at it. The ability to add feeling, atmosphere to such a piece is above and beyond th usual. I like to refer to Mary Cicely Baker faerie illustrations for ideas on how one might create mood and atmosphere. There was a second illustrator who's name I can never remember in the same time frame and genre. So far as adding mood and atmosphere to a holly project, at the moment I have no ideas

What kiln do I need to purchase?
@FiredGlass2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley, that's a difficult question to answer without some background information. Do you have single or 3-phase electric supply? Some kilns require a 3 phase supply, others will work on single phase. What is the maximum size of work will you be doing, this will dictate the size of the kiln you need. Will you be doing drop vases and the like. If so you need a kiln that has a viewing hole to allow you to monitor the process during firing. There's no simple stock answer as with buying a motor car, everyone's needs are different and understanding that will help to get a kiln to meet you needs. You location will also have an impact on choice as kilns available in the UK will be different from those in Canada and the USA.
