I wasn’t sure exactly how this would turn out, but it was easier than I thought and turned out great! Making the “dots” may have been the hardest part, but only because I don’t have much patience! LOL
Looking for my decals or bails, Amazon store, Bullseye resources, other suppliers, my Facebook page and more? ALL my favorite and most-requested links are in this one place: linktr.ee/jama...
First firing: dots
600-1475-30, then off to fully cool
No anneal since they are small I’m firing these again anyway
Second firing: dots in a ring mold
400-1200-0
600-1400-15
9999-900-180
100-700-0
180-300-0
Final firing: slump
75-600-0
300-1200-15
9999-900-180
75-500-0

Jamaison Shuler, I just wanted to let you know that you have single-handedly made me obsessed with fusing glass. I just bought a kiln and I’m waiting on several deliveries to get started . I watched all your videos in three weeks and have since started watching Tabitha’s channel. thanks for all of the resources you supplied throughout the years. I’m following all of them. Problem is that I miss your videos and now I have to wait like everybody else. I’ll probably just watch them all over again. Keep them coming. Thank you.

Aw, thank you for such a kind note! And I guess I should apologize for your newfound obsession and financial ruin! Lol! Stay tuned to the channel, but I’m trying to navigate some aging parent issues and so I haven’t been in the studio and may be a bit in between videos for a while. But don’t give up on me! If you are on Facebook, make sure to follow me over there. Even though I’m not posting videos, there’s more activity there. Facebook.com/youtubejamaison

I like the addition of the small frit balls. I have made some with luminescent in a single layer and had problems with the edges keeping together.

Opaline is my favorite glass by far. The second glass I taught I had to ‘fix’ three of these that the previous instructor never finished. Then I spent a month making balls to make on for myself. I did one in clear and one in opaline and a couple of small ones with a mixture of both, my boss sold them all when she emptied the kiln. Not what I wanted. But now I want to make another

As usual, project and excellent teaching video that I want to replicate in some way. However, I cannot find a glass similar to opaline in 96COE. Do know of a glass produced in 96COE similar to Bullseye Opaline.

Oceanside Compatible line is rebranded Spectrum System 96. They have one called Crystal Opal. I always had trouble with multiple firings of white glass. It seems to be more brittle, fracture more easily than other colors

doing this with a reactive white and maybe a blue or green it reacts with would be so sick.

also does your linktree contain where you got that cutting system? looks amazing.
@JamaisonSchuler

No, I actually bought the cutting system second hand, but you can find it online at creatorsbrand.com. It’s the strip pro cutter with slide bar, waffle grid, the whole kit.

@@JamaisonSchuler cool beans. i have a morton system but i like that this one has a ball bearing sliding cutter. i mix alot of kiln formed murrine techniques with furnace work ones, and that would help me a LOT.

That’s really lovely. As someone who’s just beginning - if you did want to layer it with clear, what steps would you take to keep the dots distinct?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler Ай бұрын
I made a second one and used a 2mm clear layer and fired just a bit warmer. It came out well with distinct dots, just don’t fire too warm.

Why didn't you use clear glass under the beads to make the dish more sturdy? If you cut the bottom circle an slightly smaller, it wouldn't show at the edges and still give support. The piece was beautiful but some of those small edge beads made me nervous.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 ай бұрын
Artist choice. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I considered it, but I did not want clear glass (which would pick up kiln shelf or paper texture) to distract from the lacy appearance of the piece.
@lindaclasson1088

@@JamaisonSchuler You can use float glass as a kiln shelf for a smooth bottom. I think Zyp works on float.
@lornasaner1130

Why didn’t you start with a clear base?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 ай бұрын
Because I did not want the clear to interrupt the lacy pattern. It’s more of an art piece than functional. Clear glass would still pick up texture and I didn’t want that seen in the gaps
