So so fucking good. I was introduced to Los Lobos because the dude running the board at Stevie Ray Vaughn's shows in 1985 played, Will the Wolf Survive?. I have loved them from that moment. Great American Band.

I was working in Cincinnati in fall of 1987. After a bowl of spaghetti and chili my friend said you have to hear this band - Los Lobos. They knocked the house down...I was hooked and a big fan ever since that club concert. Never thanked my friend for introducing them to me...

I saw them for the first time at the first Furthur Festival, having dismissed them as “those La bamba guys “ , a HUGE mistake. Been a rabid fan since then and I regret the twenty years I didn’t see them! They are insanely good musicians and very nice, approachable guys. I LOVE them.

They are the best Americana band there is and my favorite band. They have no fear. Last night on a Blues Cruise all Patrons we're invited to pen request for Los Lobos of any song. Of course their fans kept them in the ballpark. They played Hendrix, James Brown, Traffic, Grateful Dead, Neil Young plus Nortena artist that I do not Know. A great two hour show.

Fell in love with the song "Will the Wolf Survive" on MTV, but it was years later that I realized that the the guitar intro was lifted from the 1974 Nick Lowe song "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding," recorded with his band Brinsley Schwarz and later made more famous by Elvis Costello.

One of the greatest bands of all time. This performance is simply outrageously good. The band was still young and hungry, they simply burned through their set. Each song is so focused and the band is so tight, this period for me was them at their best as a line band about as good as it gets.

Los Lobos got airplay on KROQ in the 80's - a new wave station that also played rockabilly and California bands. Best radio station ever. I saw LL outdoors in Oregon in the 90's and twice indoors at Ram's Head in Annapolis in the 00's and 10's. Phenomenal rockers and exquisite acoustical players. What a band.

It's been said here many times, but these guys are truly an American Band. Born and raised in California....which literally was Mexico until the US stole it after the needless Mexican-American War (even U.S. Grant thought it was needless) Anyways I'm also a California son, born in LA, and second generation American from Mexican heritage....whatever. An amazing band that truly has it's roots in the kind of music we grew up with, and rock'n'roll is a big part of that, especially a couple metal bands that came out of San Gabriel Valley in the next decade. They played up here in Big Bear Lake (our new home) in April 2019, and the club was JAMMED. Apparently they play The CAVE every two or three years. Amazing show. White people was going crazy. We hung out after the show (my brother knows them from way back) and it was like a family bbq with your crazy cousins. Are they in Hall of Fame yet? They really should be.

La Bamba will always be that one instantly recogizable hit for Lobos, especially by those not so familiar with their music. This is certainly the case in the UK, where La Bamba proved to be a huge hit in the charts in 1987 and has continued to be highly appreciated ever since as the best alternate version to Richie Valens' original. It is interesting to explore more about Lobos since I am currently on holiday in Costa Del Sol, and I have been checking out some of their other records and live performances. You definitely get the Spanish feel and look from them, and they're pretty good at doing rockers of the Spanish type. I regard them as a cross between Spanish and Mexican, and they epitomise it fittingly.
@TXOLDEBULLDOGGER6 жыл бұрын
Los lobos is a group of mostly first generation American kids who wanted to learn the traditional music of their parents homeland so they could play for their mothers. They mastered the most intricate folk music of all parts of Mexico and central America. You can hear some of this early mastery in the album "Los Lobos Del Este De Los Angeles - Just Another Band From East L.A" from the 70's. Being from America, they were also raised on rock-n-roll, blues, r&b, country, etc...They started playing American music they liked and they started composing their own by blending all of their influences into an eclectic but very individual sound that is borne out of the incredible skill of the musicians. Los Lobos is the band that other musicians go to watch. Los lobos is a sound that could only happen in America, by Americans from their cultural background. There are similar bands in Texas that have a stronger German influence on the sound, so it's a different interpretation of the Mexican-American experience, but just as unique. .

ELLA HORNBY With 2015's "Gates Of Gold" the band returned to their roots and made arguably their best album song for song. Check it out; if you don't have it, get it. Seems like only a couple years ago when most of the band turned up to play at our Halloween party in our living room in San Diego(along with The Beat Farmers, Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper!). Hard to believe 33 years has flown by!

Well, it's been 4 years, so you prolly won't see this, but.... not a pedal steel. It has no pedals. Earlier type than the pedal steel. Any special effects, special chords, sounds, etc. had to be done with just the left hand, basically. And yeah, he plays it beautifully. I'm fortunate to have see them live 30 times, without owning a car. But I've managed to see them in New Mexico and WA state.
