Making a prehung door using your directions really helped us in our restoration project of our 120-year-old bungalow, but I wish you would add more about the challenges of installing antique doors in old houses. First, we found most antique doors are not square, some from sagging and many from being trimmed (often roughly) to fit into old door frames. This has to be rectified first and it's not always an easy process when you're trying to preserve the knob/mortise lock locations. Second, the fact that older doors are solid and weighty yet supported by only 2 (rather than 3 hinges) creates other issues and not just the need for longer screws. Third, you can't just go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a door jam kit for antique doors because such kits are only 4-9/16 wide, not wide enough for thicker interior walls of an older house (which is the most likely scenario where you're going to be putting it). But thanks for getting us started on the right road!

Yes, we struggled to get the door to hang level because it had some twist in it. The door had lost it's flatness. I should have made a followup video showing those struggles.

Painters sticks are usually 1/8 which is what I use for spacing on the sides while assembling the jamb.

If your surface is not level instead of using a square, use a small level to plumb the side jambs. Great video.

Just match the meeting edges of each board. No umbrella or square.

A material list would have been super helpful with actual names. I’m over here trying to make a Lowes order and I have no idea how to search for these items.

What is the measure of the jam pieces and the stopper piece? Big box store is out of kits. I need to make my own

I have to do this very soon but with an outside door. Would it be easier to mortise the hinges before assembly? So glad I found this. Gonna sub too!

Welcome aboard. I was starting to think I was the only one doing this with an old door. Sure you could mortise first and it probably would be easier, but since the hinges were already set on this door I felt it safer to set the door first. It still didn't turn out perfect since the door I used was a bit out of square, but we made it work with some shimming.

I think if you measured the other face of the door it would’ve been 24” even. I believe the hinge side is slightly beveled.

Pull the tape then push the tape, equals out of whack

"Stiles" are on the door itself, not the jamb. You are referring to the "head jamb." :)

Also, you need to measure the door at multiple widths and multiple heights. Measuring in one spot only is a really bad idea. You also need to put a materials list in the description and/or just use text on the video.
