wow, i had the complete wrong idea about her. I was cleaning my apt listening to this and had to go sit down in my office and start it over to watch the whole thing about 10 min in bc this ENTIRE ep sounded like she was reading from my brain. id only seen her in the good place so its not like i knew much or anything but god shes COMPLETELY different from how shes portrayed on socials etc. HUGE fan now, had no idea.

As good as others have been, this one is the most relatable for me. All of her blocks and her description of them are blocks I've been struggling with my whole life in one form or another. Minus the fame, money and success of course. This is my personal favorite by far.

Delightful! Also, the editor of these videos is truly a Grand Master. Just imagining them logging perfect clips for each James. Not to mention the subtle differences in Block text speed. I might be over analyzing but I appreciate the skills in service of a bit.

As someone in recovery, this podcast has quickly become one of my favorites. Hearing these people discuss their pitfalls and open up and be vulnerable - all while being charming and hilarious and dropping references that I only know because of my time spent using - all makes this feel like this podcast is directed straight at my ears specifically

The Data from Star Trek thing was very familiar to me. I always had trouble relating to other people and after a while just saw them as puzzles who could sometimes be mean. It doesn't happen often but when I hear someone say they are/were like that too, I feel a little less lonely

I don't even know where to start on this. Jameela, for me, just went from beings a one-sided character that i never really gave much thought to, to maybe my favorite person ever. I want to simultaneously be her mother, her best friend, her mentee... I loved every word out of this woman's mouth.
@Elmerphant

Neal, I'm with Jameela on this one (Advice). Yes there is nuance and we should all be tactful. There is only some much we can say because everyone is on their own journey. However, you will never regret being honest and curious about loved ones. Having the difficult conversation is an act of love. Sometimes it goes the way you think it will and sometimes you get surprised (and they reveal elements you wouldn't even be aware of it you didn't have a deep/difficult conversation). Being brave enough to speak with people you love about hard shit brings you closer (because they begin to trust you more, that you know their shadow and still love them). I think if people removed ego more and were open to deep conversation the world would be a better place. Honesty is always best (if not now then down the path they'll get it).

Some of my favorite episodes of Blocks are my favorite because they remind me that I have a lot in common with people I've barely heard of or wouldn't expect. This is one of those episodes. I haven't seen much of Jameela's work, but it's good to be reminded that there are a few of us alien impostors out there just along for the ride.

Another good one. My only feedback is when you have someone on you're super close to - you don't expand on certain things you might with someone you don't know as well. Like when she said legacy was stupid and Neal agreed - with another guest he may have said "tell me more about that" vs just agreeing and moving on. (I agree legacy is bs btw, just would have liked to hear them both expand on their thoughts on it.)

"The way you were raised, emanates prey." Yes! Especially if you experienced sexual abuse I'm so happy she articulated this so perfectly, because though it's never the victims fault, but that violation of boundary or personhood, that loss of power, that gross violation, alters a person's ability to exude confidence or a person who fights for themselves (that awkwardness, not feeling normal, etc), so predators are attracted to that, I hate to say this but you end up attracting abuse, its the same way if you gave off a "Don't fuck with that person" energy. But with work you can change this.

Without knowing much about her I confess I did get a little bit of the ick years ago when I heard about her calling people incels (or whatever story social media was passing around). Now I'm a bit angry that I let them steer my perceptions of her. After seeing this I adore her and am hugely impressed with the life she was able to build on top of such an unfortunate foundation. All of that staring at people from afar paid off because her social IQ is higher than mine will ever be.
