Just got off the phone with James- great guy and very knowledgeable. He definitely helped me figure out the best route to take for my build and answered all my noob-ish questions regarding building my old long-block vs getting a turn-key. While I'm fairly confident I can assemble the internals, check clearances, torque everything to spec, etc... I wouldn't really be saving that much money considering everything that's needed to be done to prep the old block-halves and heads for a +600whp build. Anyways, I just said "fuck it" and got the IAG 900 long-block plus all supporting mods to go with my ETS rotated Precision 6266 turbo. Couldn't pass up that black Friday deal.

Easily a 100k build including cost of car, parts, and labor?
@bindabbin60675 жыл бұрын
Nope. James and I built my car almost same set up. I just have mine tuned way down because I'm not a savage. At 840 I'm totally happy and it's still cheaper and way more fun and reliable than a hellcat or demon or any other 40k+ car. You just have to know how to work on cars and not watch fast and furious and think every car you see with an exhaust is gonna run a 10 second pass. Not bashing you at all just sayin it's not as expensive as people think. No it's not 10k but it's not 100k or even 50k or 40k.
@sleeper.simulant73275 жыл бұрын
Seth Burggraf idk about more reliable, sure you’re using high quality parts, but 1066 hp is a lot of strain on even a forged block.... definitely not more reliable then a built LS, and not nearly as cheap to build as a LS either lol.... downside of Subaru’s, they’re expensive to build compared to other vehicles. And it’s going to be well over 100k for buying the car/building to that power level on a newer STi hatch like this one... if you are good friends with a builder or have the skill, tools and knowledge to do it yourself it’ll cost way less money wise (time/tools invested would be a lot though, time is money), but this isn’t a regular old turbo kit, this is custom fabricated stuff...
@bindabbin60675 жыл бұрын
@@sleeper.simulant7327 I can throw forged pistons better rods and bearings, a decent cam and a set of good flowing heads on a 350 small block. Fill it with cement and make whatever power level I want with or without forced induction for literally less than 2k. You can make any combustion engine make any amount of power and uneducated people will always tell you they know better. When you can tune for load, timing, injector latency and open cycle then go back to a carb and do the same thing come talk to me, with time slips. Not some stupid username with no knowledge about the actual cost of building a car. A "built ls" ? I'm glad u and ur buddies drink naty light and talk about 4 bangers and built ls motors. A 10 year old can buy a 150$ pull it junk yard ls 327 and turbo it and make power. No reason it or a subaru cant be reliable. I guess you wouldn't understand you drive everything sideways which tends to break shit pretty fast.
@sleeper.simulant73275 жыл бұрын
Seth Burggraf no knowledge? When I was in my late teens (before I had a family, actually had $ back then lol) I bought and swapped a ej25 into a cheap gf8 hatch I picked up for $1000. Fun little car. Between time and money spent (was able to save a little out of pocket due to contacts I had), I was still a little over $10k into the car. Minor bolt on ej25, upgraded clutch and other supporting parts... long story short it spun a bearing 7 months later. Cut my losses and parted out the car. So I have experience with Subaru. Fun to drive? Definitely. But compared to a Honda or a Evo, they seem like a waste of money to build.... and yeah you can make any engine make any amount of power, but how much will it cost and how long will it run for? You could make a smart cars 3 cylinder have 1000 whp, you’ll sink over $100k into it, but it’s possible... EJ’s are expensive to build to big power levels and maintain reliability. It’s possible, but it’s going to cost you. I’d like to see what building this car would actually cost for this level of power, actual slips on what a normal customer would actually pay for a build like this. So, buying the car, buying all the parts needed, tuning sessions, etc. it’s well over $100k for everything, guaranteed...
