I appreciated this teaching. One thing is that Pastor Paul preaches against taking matters into our own hands and retaliating. However, that is exactly what the state (government) is; an apparatus of violence. Democracy is nothing but a tyranny of the majority, or mob rule. Our side vs. your side. To encourage believers to take part in democracy and the domination of our neighbors is directly contrary to Pastor Paul's own teaching and our call to love our neighbors and seek to live peaceably with them.

As someone who was raised once saved, always saved, this was a challenging sermon for me. I don't understand how someone could be truly saved and then turn away. Did God write their name in the book of life and then erase it? I always figured people like that were never truly saved to begin with. Will continue to pray and search the scriptures on this. My question would be what constitutes turning away from the truth. Can a momentary fleeting thought do it? Like once in a while I get that what if all this isn't true thought and I feel so terrified because I know within my soul that apart from Jesus I have nothing and wouldn't even want to live without him, and I ask God to forgive me and take the thought captive.

Where does it say in the Bible that one is save by "faith alone"? In the King James Bible it says, "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." James 2:24

James is not saying we are saved by works, he is saying your faith, which saves you, is proven true by what you do. Big difference there. Actually, saved by grace through faith. . .eph. 2:8-9
