Loved this book. Had this version as a kid. I got it in a box set of Roald Dahl audiobooks from my granny and listened to it for years. I wish Andrew Sachs had narrated more books in his life. His voice is so pleasant to hear. I love the way he reads the centipede character best I think.

56:04 and 2:22:38 - straight out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There is clearly a Roald Dahl expanded universe.

The Incredible Voyage of The HouseSubmarine: my retelling of James and The Giant Peach, with a hybrid of a house, car and submarine, as well as anthropomorphic dinosaurs. Plot: a young boy named Jack lived with his parents in a house by the sea in Australia, they long to go to Hollywood and visit the theaters and cinemas, as well as a big movie studio. One day, Jack’s parents were killed by a saltwater crocodile, forcing the boy to live with his cruel aunts , Agatha and Palma, who force him to work every day. One day, Jack meets a mysterious old man named Rasputin, who gives him a bag full of magical green spirits, and tells him to use them in a potion to drink. He accidentally spills the potion into his toy dinosaurs, as well as a toy housecar his parents gave him. The housecar turns into a real one, and Jack enters it, meeting anthropomorphic dinosaurs that were originally his toys -T-Rex, Ankylosaurus, Velociraptor, Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Triceratops, Pteranodon and Mosasaurus- who want to escape. Velociraptor drives the HouseCar out of the hill, running over and killing Agatha and Palma, and going into the Pacific Ocean, turning the HouseCar into the HouseSubmarine. The map and compass on the controls reveals they’re going to Hollywood, and the HouseSubmarine begins its journey through the pacific. Among the way, Jack and the dinosaurs encounter sirens, a giant squid and the sunken ruins of an ancient lost city. One night, they land on the Los Angeles beach and Jack and the dinosaurs have finally reached Hollywood. Jack reveals the dinosaurs to the public, who mistaken them for mythical monsters, but realize they’re friendly talking dinosaurs, and celebrate the event. The HouseCarSubmarine is converted into a big mansion in Hollywood Hills as a permanent home, and Jack now has a loving new family. T-Rex became chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company, restoring it to its former glory, Ankylosaurus became a big football star, Velociraptor became a Hollywood stunt driver and movie star, Stegosaurus became a famous rapper, Parasaurolophus became a pop star thanks to her musical crest, Triceratops became a famous KZbinr, Pteranodon married Zac Efron and they adopted a bunch of kids, and Mosasaurus made a nightclub called Club Mosasaur.

Out of print or cancelled by the woke brigade?
@ArrowOdenn5 ай бұрын
Definitely out of print - just this edition, though. The current in print edition is narrated by James Acaster. New recordings become available often. I imagine this one was withdrawn from print after Andrew Sachs died in 2016.
