I didn't know that James Best couldn't play the guitar on the Andy Griffith Show. And a musician from the wrecking crew played the guitar on the episode Jim Lindsey the guitar player returns .good video bob

When you watch it again next time, you get to see Jim Lindsey’s (Best) face while he is picking, his fingers weren’t doing too much covering the frets, BUT when he was tearing it up on a solo, you couldn’t see his face. That was the session player. Good job by the producer and director, to really make it seem like it was really him!! TV magic!?

I always thought it was really him playing, but found out recently that he lied about it.

He's not the first actor to lie about having a skill. How many lied about being able to ride a horse? It's a wonder the producers didn't ask him to take a few lessons before the second appearance. In that episode we learn that Jim Lindsey now had three guitars. There's some dispute about those musicians being called The Wrecking Crew. Carol Kaye claimed that Hal Blaine was responsible. She preferred another name. By the way, she also played guitar on The Beat Goes On. In fact, she helped with the arrangement. Other shows have cheated regarding musicians. Ron Howard's saxophone playing on Happy Days was dubbed. Pat Boone's guitar on The Beverly Hillbillies sounded like a full orchestra. I sometimes wonder if those faking instruments ever make an attempt to play the actual chords of the songs.

You know Andy loved the music bsn !!! I got the 45 record of Andy doing the football and explaining the basketball game comedy!!! My mom had them !! There before Andy Griff show !!! Love them

One of my least favorite episodes. It is blatantly obvious to anyone with music skills the instant you see Jim Best pick up the guitar that he has no clue what he’s doing. Now, how about Andy’s playing? I was always yearning to learn more of Griffiths abilities on guitar. He seemed to have real talent on guitar, with a unique finger picking style.

Even to this day ,if anybody starts singing or playing an instrument on a sitcom I turn it off. Especially Andy Griffith , I never liked the way he played the guitar or sang . If the star of the show wants to be a musician fine do that , if they want to be an actor stick with that.
