Amazing how the Rhone Glacier has retreated. It was at the lip when I was first there in 2003, but is now a couple of hundred meters further back.

Yes, that is true. Not just the Rhone but the other glaciers as well like Gamchi & Aletsch. Alpine glacier melting is a stark evidence of climate change.

The gasoline station no longer exists. The Hotel Aurora tore it out about 3 years ago.

the gasoline station still exists, only the petrol pumps have been dismantled. The Hotel Aurora, the distinctive petrol station roof with the flower pot and the workshop are all still there. Close of the Gemsstockbahn.
