We only had analog so we couldn’t fudge the music digitally. Less covering up low quality musicians back then. So better musicians and more sound control. That’s kinda the deal.

I saw him live in '88 at an open.air festival show in Sweden, a couple of months before the infamous car chase and arrest that sent him to jail. We suffered on that gig! In New York some of the band didn’t have their passports in order so we hired a company called Visa aids, My God I remember this like it was yesterday we had Muhammad Ali on the brand new DC 10 and our band ( the James Brown band) flew over in a nasty 707, we carried not only James Brown but George Foreman and his crew, the spinners, A couple of others but that plane was packed and some SOB brought along some pickles pig feet and other people had some really funky food they bought in Harlem and had wrapped up in tinfoil but you could smoke on a plane back then, and the whiskey was just flowing like water . When we all landed in Africa there had to be a minimum of 300,000 people about to overtake the airport grounds! We got there about 2:30 in the morning and all the White agents and managers were petrified at the site of all those wild ass black dudes, when we play the opening some girl came out and got on stage and was dancing and one of her titties came up and that is strictly against economic law . We needed to get back after this gig so we could go home and rehearse for AN Asian tour with the USO. But porn and broke something I don’t remember so they post pone the boxing match what would not let the fighters out of the country because they had already been paid. We did the show even though I was backstage playing on the bass you could feel more energy than ever before!

This 23minuits footage has got to be best out there on you tube. just love these clips. Soul on top thank you this is truly incredible just cannot imagine the amount of film footage lost during this historic trip to Zaire with Americas entourage of music legends. I understand the worlds sports press had the time of lives enjoying the extensive party while focusing on the Rumble in the Jungle.

Say what you will and feel how you feel, but there has never-EVA been a more stone cold intro as this! The instrumentation, the attitude, the dress the sheer physicality! He was indeed the hardest working man in show business! Soul Brotha #1. The man and his band single handedly kicked off an entire other genre of music!

Actually, the music was edited in the film so you would hear that particular song called Same Beat. Released in 74 under the name The JB's, Damn Right I'm Somebody.
