My dear deceased parents were from Durham North Carolina and some of us were born in New Haven Ct ,but I had to spend the summers there starting in the summer of 1964! I know about the 10 cents movies all day! BUT by that time James Brown was selling out all of his shows! WHAT GREAT MEMORIES. I THANK YAHWEH JEHOVAH GOD FOR HAVING ME BEING BORN IN THE 50S TO WITNESS AND WORSHIP YAHWEH JEHOVAH GOD FIRST AND THEN SEEING JB. HE DOESN'T COMPARE TO YAHWEH JEHOVAH GOD BECAUSE HE CREATED HIM AND GAVE HIM LIFE

I grew up in Philadelphia, PA in the 1960's and most of the songs coming out of the record shop's sound systems were Mr. James Brown's 👍🏾 I've had the pleasure of seeing him live at least 5 times throughout my 62 years and I've seen nothing less than spectacular performances each and every time. The last live performance of his I attended with my eldest brother, and eldest Son who was in his 20's a couple of years before his death. Needless to say my son knew every song played ❤️ I'm still a funk music 🎵 fan and will be even after I die 💕 Thanks Mr. Brown for a lifetime of great music! I love you Sir 🙏🏾

None of you sound you know what you're talking about in regards to hip-hop. James Brown was sampled widely throughout the 1980s in hip-hop, but his music was not used since then and modern hip-hop is closer to electronic music than to funk and soul. Hip-hop has many forefathers and inspirations. It is an amalgamation of the cultural knowledge of an entire people, namely black Americans. It is still evolving to this day and has never stopped evolving. To claim otherwise is simply an ignorant statement. Yes, James Brown had a massive influences on hip-hop, but in the same way he had a massive influence on all modern American popular music genres. Blues and Funk are at the core of most of them.

Damn, there is no doubt A LOT of recent artists, dead or alive got their styles and sound from JB. He most definitely created a whole new genre of music in his time that lives on today in many artists. Amazing natural talent, he was. Him and his band were tight as a drum and funky as hell. No one can compare JB to anyone before or after him. He was in a league of his own, only to be modeled after. Thanks for the upload. What a treat.

Tone down the MC intro, start with familiar songs...slowly funk them up as you play and he owned that audience. Having what had to be best touring band of the 60's is also pretty fortunate too. In 1968 the entire James Brown experience perforned in a NHL hockey arena in Toronto. What a night! It was imposible to hear much, but the sight of 20 or so thougholy rehearsed elegantly dressed people playing "for the people" is as fresh in my minds eye today as it was over half a century ago. Watching a Frank Sinatra concert on You Tube recently reminded me of that night, Why does Frank Sinatra play the biggest venues in the world and Mr Brown, while he is a star, should be as big as Mr Sinatra?

Too many distractions for kids to master instruments in the numbers that they used to. Hell too many for me to take advantage of opportunities when this guy was prime innovative talent. Now the world of distractions is in front of them available for indulgence. Some of us didn't completely realize how fortunate we were to have our cultural environment or that it would nearly vanish in our lifetime. Generation Z doesn't generally have any idea how comparatively shortchanged they are by their abundance of media.

@@tns4421 Certainly in that sense. But crossover generally means crossing over to the white audience. And Brown wasn't having that early in his career. But to be sure, James Brown created funk out of the existing Black music forms, blues/r&b/gospel/jazz.
