He was superb. I'm sad that he suffered so much!

James Carr took the stage in Porretta, a spa town in the hills around Bologna in Northern Italy, a little scared. The same musicians, with whom he had recorded many years earlier, were doubtful about the outcome of the concert. Instead the warmth of the audience was so contagious that James Carr found the voice of his best years. His performance remains one of the highlights of the thirty-year experience of the Porretta Soul Festival.

They tried to use the garbage that rap music has become to destroy our rich culture of soul music.Soul music is something that no other race of people can express like black peoples, they can try to imitate and we appreciate the flattery from some artists over the years, but that true gut wrenching sound that comes deep from our soul can only be expressed by black peoples.

I have always wondered what happened to this man. I saw him perform in the sixties. What a voice, then he disappeared. Never knew what happened to him until recently. Such a tragedy.

It's reported that he had bipolar disorder and passed away from cancer. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to find his beautiful voice thanks to a movie with James Caan. I've been listening all day. RIP Mr Carr 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
