Just pure gold here and the reason free form podcasts need to exist. Carville is unfiltered and no spin. Refreshing to hear the details and machinations of in the trenches politics. When you remove the embellishments of spin, propaganda, posturing you can see a path to compromise and consensus. It really makes you wonder how many Congress people would vote for an agenda if they did not fear Party - not constituent - retribution.

She was one of the very, very few in 2016 who realized that Trump was going to win. Here she is two months before the election saying that Trump had a "100 percent change" to win, no doubt in her mind at all. Her take is exactly on the money, maybe the best analysis of the 2016 election of them all. But she seems to have retired from commentary. kzbin.info/www/bejne/el6TgZdsqdx_fZo

"Its the economy, stupid" - James Carville. all these years later its still the economy, stupid. its what will decide the next election.
@patricktilton5377 Жыл бұрын
The MAGA Trump cult, though, will vote for him against their own economic interests, just to 'own the libs' -- and because the ultra-fundamentalist evangelical Christians out there in TV land believe the bullshit they're preached: that God chose Trump to be an 'anointed' king of America . . . that the election really WAS stolen by 'DemonRats' against God's Will, etc. Those crazy bastards never viewed Romney or McCain that way -- though there were certain zany vibes regarding 'W', as in the documentary "JESUS CAMP" in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, when for them it became a Holy War of Christian America against Islamist Terrorism, with their belief that God must have 'chosen' George W, Bush to 'win' the 2000 election, just so he'd be the one leading our righteous forces in the fight, rather than Gore. It wasn't the Economy that led to Trump's win in 2016. Under Obama/Biden, the economy recovered from the nosedive that Bush/Cheney left us with and steadily improved over the course of 8 years . . . but Republicans (and their Fox News propaganda wing) complained that the recovery under Obama wasn't good enough -- this after their last elected POTUS (W) had TANKED the economy! It wasn't the Economy that Trump's most rabid fanbase was concerned about; it was all the dog-whistling he did catering to their hatred of everything even slightly to the left of the Alt-Right. I only WISH the state of the Economy would guarantee victory, since America's doing just fine, especially compared to the rest of the world in the wake of the Covid crisis. Our only hope is that the majority of Americans who despise Trump will vote BLUE down the line, ensuring a Democrat is in the White House and, hopefully, that the Dems keep the Senate AND flip the House -- preferably with sizable majorities in both so that obstructionist shenanigans by DINOs like Manchin and Synema won't hamstring a sensible agenda. Maybe Boebert will be defeated in Colorado, too, after her 'sleeve-job' incident pisses off too many of the fed-up Republican base who just can't abide such hypocrisy. There's hope yet!

Good interview. Talking with Mr Carville is truly talking to history as a political insider. I appreciate that you’re an Independent and look honestly at each candidate. I learned that “woke” folks only make up a few Democrats as I had the [mis]conception that all Democrats are woke. To paraphrase Mr. Carville, all Democrats aren’t woke but all woke are Democrats. My fault with the Democratic elected officials is that they don’t publicly tell the woke that they are stupid (as you have done repeatedly); or, at best, they simply ignore it. Thank you for mentioning our education problems but I wish you had talked about the immigration crisis, the homeless/drug crisis, the crime crisis (at least in large cities).

If we could recognize forward-thinking people with practical intelligence are in every place of our land, we could move past our current cultural stressor. We could be so much greater. A great point of life is meeting someone that is polar opposite of your experience and hearing the same motivations of fairness, acceptance, and love.
@bobearly3653 Жыл бұрын
That requires not listening to the loudest mouths. Filter the activists out and you will find a proper conversation. "We could be so much greater." Not when the population sets itself up to be governed by the two selected elites both acting like they're President.

My favourite Trumpism is that hw admits that he uses the system to pay as little income tax as possible. At least Carville admitted that Democrats look down on working people. I grew up blue collar used the GI Bill to get a college degree and got a white collar job and became middle class. In the office, people would assume I grew up like them and would say the dumbest shit about people who worked blue collar jobs. They told me so much about themselves that was useful to me.

@drownthepoor Жыл бұрын
Why would anyone in their right mind want to pay more than the absolute minimum? Simply look at what is done with that money. It's used as a statement of income for the govt against which they are lent what amounts to virtually infinite cash, and even with all of that they're about to run out of money to pay themselves.. They don't enforce the southern border whatsoever, and that's on the list of basic jobs of the federal govt. It was revealed our money is being sent to Ukraine not just for weapons etc. but to keep small businesses afloat. Its send abroad under countless guises because that's how you maintain being the default currency. That and make sure oil can't be bought with anything else because that would tip you over real fast. See: Iraq & Libya.
