James Dean Gallery Museum Tour with Curator David Loehr

The James Dean Gallery Museum that once sat off I-69 in Gas CIty just outside of James Dean's hometown of Fairmount, Indiana has now been moved back to its original home in downtown Fairmount. Gone, however, are many of the great James Dean artifacts seen in this video. We are happy this museum and its contents are preserved in this video.
This video comes from the bonus disc of the documentary DVD, James Dean: Born Cool produced and directed by Denn Pietro and Denver Rochon. The DVD is available at the Fairmount Historical Museum and the James Dean Gallery Museum.
David Loehr has been helping to promote the legacy of James Dean since he moved to Jimmy's hometown of Fairmount back in the early eighties. Come visit Fairmount and say hello to David at the James Dean Gallery Museum when you are here! Also make sure to visit the other James Dean museum at the Fairmount Historical Museum. The two museums compliment each other nicely!!
James Dean:Born Cool was the first documentary executive produced by James Dean's cousin and head of the Dean Estate, Marcus Winslow.

I just visited James Dean’s hometown a few weeks ago. I went through the gallery and they still have the gate from the film Rebel Without a Cause. I also walked around town, stopped by James’ childhood home and paid my respects at Jimmy’s grave... I posted a video tour on my channel for anyone that can’t make it to Fairmount Indiana. If you can, definitely stop in, the town is a beautiful place. 💜✨

@@cecexoxoable I don’t know the exact address, when I was there I went to the James Dean gallery and they gave me a map with all the locations. If you goggle James Dean Fairmount Indiana it shows you a map to his childhood home and the cemetery. It’s all on the same road, not hard to find. Anyway, I hope you have a nice visit, Fairmount is a beautiful town. ✌️💕

Id love to see the Museum again! Its been updated and expanded since my visit there in 2001..Id be in trouble in that gift shop! Id buy out the store..lol..great job..David!!🎁💝🎈😘😘

David Loehr went from dealing in memorabilia of Jimmy to offering the walking tours in NYC to actually moving to Fairmount himself..Ive visited both the first museum in town..and then the one he estabished first..As you can see..he has expanded that museum and I cant wait ti visit it and meet David again! Im a great fan of James Dean...Mr. David Loehr had called me once to ask me if I had any memorabilia about Jimmy to buy..trade or sell ..he lived in New York City at the time..and he offered walking tours of the neighborhood that Jimmy used to move in at W. 61st Street in Manhattan..Sorry I didnt get to do that..because I was living in Florida at the time...Hi David!! I visited this place back in 2005 while doing Camp America as a travelling Australian. Great museum and owners! I just can never forget the James dean hair comb I bought from the gift store but accidentally left it behind on the counter 😂 😢

Also..Ive visited Fairmount twice..Ive met the aunt who raised him...Mrs Hortense Winslow at the door of their farmhouse..and also met one of his cousins! Its a beautiful place to visit..cornfields right across the street from the farm..xo

Met Mr. Loehr in Fairmount back in late 1980's. He was at that time trying to get bui a room for J Dean away from "Garfield" the cat's creator-what's his name. He had big ideas. Wow! Talk about a love, commitment, and perserverance! Beautiful building/gallery. Thank you!

Debbie Bolek The James Dean weekend is the last full weekend in September in Fairmount through the Fairmount Historical Museum. There are also other weekends to note: in February for James Dean birthday weeekend and in July for James Dean Fans Weekend both hosted by the James Dean Gallery in Fairmount.
